there's no way I'm going to let some installers get inside my car to put in a kit... I've seen the holes they drill.

but Nokia says all this stuff about messing up the ECU due to improper installation. How? I could see if you piggie backed the box to the ECU or near it, but wtf are they talking about? whats the big deal. most places seem adamate about prof. install and wont even sell you the kit (like the CARK-91US) without it.

if you do want to do it yourself and can't get the kit from a store without them installing it... get them off ebay - they're always on there.

well...

I can get the kit all day long really.. and fairly cheap. I just wonder what the BFD is about the kit. I mean, they act like you need shielding and stuff. I know it kicks the .5 watt phone up to 3 watt. so yeah, I wouldnt zip tie it to the fuse box or the ECU, or even near the ignition harness... I really just dont know what I'm supposed to consider. I would probably go under the seat. But I also have side air bags and I dont know if there are electronics in that area :/

The unit for my StarTac kit is under my driver's seat, no problems yet.
On a seperate note, can someone tell me why the Maxima max's out at 45 MPH?

Maybe someone here can help me, but my experience with the StarTac handfree kit is bad. The kit sucks big donkey d*ck ! The people at the other end have a hard time hearing you no matter how far or near you are to the mic. I have hear this complain from two other people that have the same kit. I did not mount the cradle, because it is a two step process to connect you phone. You have to drop your phone into the cradle, and connect the cable to the bottom of the phone.
Worse yet, there is no signal booster on the digital StarTac. It transmits at the 0.5 watts, not like other kits that boost it to 3 watts.
So I have the cable wired between my seats, connect the phone to charge it, and use a $15 wireless headset to talk on the phone.

Anybody have a handsfree kit for the Motorola Timeport? Is there a difference between the StarTac and Timeport kit? If so does the mic work any better?
