Opened up a can of woop *** on a 5.0 today
Here goes my story of my first encounter with a 88-93 mustang 5.0.I was driving down the road and I see a mustang shoot out of a parking lot and in to the road I was traveling in, It had a exaust system and a hooptee wing with a set of gold wheels,so lucky enough there was a red light. So I pulled up next to him and gave it a few good revs and he respnded by reving up his engine,it sounded like a monster,so at that point I was like ohh shi* what am I getting my self into here.So then the light turns green and I make a pefect launch with minamal wheel spin and he does a bit of peeling out.So by the time I was going 40MPH I was about a car in a half ahead of him,he was begining to gain on me a little so I shifted in two second and began to pull on him again and by the time I reached 70mph I was about 31/2 car lengths ahead of him then came 3rd gear and bt the time I was going around 95mph I was a good 5 car lengths ahead. At that point a had to make I right turn and he kept on following me way back in the rear view mirror,Then he gave up and abrumtly turned around.I was like Woo HOO !!! Oh Ya baby.I almost felt bad for the poor sucker because I wooped his as so bad he must a have been like what the fuc* I just got creamed by a 4 door sedan.Anyways I figured I would share this to every to help prove MAX superioraty. It was about time I got to race someone out hear in R.I.Also I creamed a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited on the Highway I was just chillin in 5th gear{did'nt no even bother downshifting}and by the time we reached 100mph I just flew buy him. Can't wait for my ECU I will being having even more fun!
Good kill
but as a former 5.0 owner, I can assure you that the car you raced was not the best of the breed. There had to be something wrong with it. Judging by your mods I'd say you can run a best of 15.0. With the 5 car length lead at 95 (close to a 1/4 mile mph) this puts him at a 15.5. I've been watching drag racing for years now and the slowest 5.0 stang I have ever seen personally posted a 15.6 (86GT 5spd). The average time I see is in the low 14's. My own 88GT with gears and exhaust ran a 13.9. The point I'm getting at is that even though you killed a 5.0, don't assume you can go out spanking all of them now.
Re: Good kill
Thanks for the reply but I have to disagree with you, don't get me wrong I believe the times you saw at the track but check this,You stated my Max could only pull off a 15.0 1/4.But refering to a old issue of a MT my car posted these results 0-60 in 6.6 and 1/4 in 15.2/92.4 so then take in the effects of my mods I figured I gained about 25-30 HP so that would give my Max about 220HP. and I have seen other 95 Maxes do 14.4 to 14.7 with the same mods as me.Compare those stats to say example a 92 mustang GT 5.0 which generated 225HP and 300 TQ.and according to MT it posted a 0-60 6.2 and 1/4 at 14.8/95.8.And figure that this guys was not a 92 cream of the crop but rather a 1990 which only had 205 HP and 275TQ.And I believe did a 0-60 run in 6.6 and 1/4 15.2 which then would make it a damn good race against a stock Max{which it is not}and from the looks of the Mustang was not up to par and then add in the lack of driving skills on his part, and then I've got a roadkill.
The Moral of the story is that despite the condition of a 88-92 stock mustang 5.0 a modded max with a good driver should prevail. But then if you got a moded Mustang a Max owner bedder stay the hell out of the way.Buy the way my friend has a Stang with nitrous and god only now's what else and that baby does 5 foot wheely's with slicks and runs 1/4 in 11 or 12's

Really? I have too many to list on how many SLOW 5.0 and 4.6 stangs I have spanked in my Maximas and now got one for my Sentra! :P They all run slow.

Something's not right here. My recent race with a 5.0 was alot closer than that, even with my mods...and I think the Mustang was stock. It is possible that you out-drove the Mustang owner but a kill is a kill. Good job.
Also, folks, lets not forget that Mustangs are indeed fast cars, esp. the 99+ ones, right out of the box.

Good point Doug
That definetly makes a huge difference.
Hey Remmington my bad with under rating the HP figures for a 90 Mustang,I guess I made a bad assumption there,my motor Trend collection only dates back to 93 and I looked at a 93 mustang and saw it had less HP and assumed it held true for a 90 also,my bad later

Sorry there JJW I was writing my post,
at the same time you were writing yours so I did not see that you had a SC on your max. That would make up the difference in auto vs 5sd.

Dude, you are an idiot. Have you ever even been in a mustang? They're all slow huh? I think it's funny that an owner of a stock sentra would call them slow. I'll race you in any 4.6 or 5.0 and wax your Sentra. Wanna wager? I'll even race you in my 2000 v6. I told him it was a good kill and you go and post some stupid ****. If you don't have something constructive to say, just shutup.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Good kill
Been in them, the only one that is fast is the COBRA. All the others are a waste of my time. My SE-R had many under its belt, and I have seen most 5.0 and 4.6 stangs run mid to high 15s, where both my cars are at.

Let me say something about Mustangs, I had a 89LX for many years and while I love my Max ther is now way mine or any other Max out there will even come close to a good running mustang. The driver in a mustang is everything. With exhaust and throttle body mine ran 13.7@98, heads and intake ran 12.8@106 not even a supercharged and nitros max can do that. I could easily SPIN the tires at 50mph and go sideways. You cant compare a max and a mustang so dont. some are faster than others. By the way the correct hp for a mustang are 85-210, 86-205, 87-93-225all the same even though ford rated some less.

Let me just clear a thing or two up here first off the quickest old school mass produced {1500 or more per year}mustang was a 93 Cobra and by the way it had 235 HP,so next time you try to correct me try getting the facts right yourself first. 93 Cobra which by no means was the Rustang I raced does 0-60 in 6.0 and the 1/4 14.6. so lets put this in perspective yet again my max is generating about the same numbers as a 93 Cobra has on the track, then add in the fact it's a Ford and it has about 10 years on it and most likely not up to par.So then a modded Max like mine whould have a great race with a well cared for 93 Cobra, but that was hardly the race I had it was a older looking one most likely 88-90 Mustang by the looks of it definetly not a Cobra I know what the body panneling looks like on those. So then take off a good half second off it's 1/4 mile because of the fact it was not a Cobra and was not in the best looking shape{which most of them are'nt}So that then looks like a good race for a factory 95 Max with a 5sd.So my final point which I mentioned early a modded max like my own should prevail against a stock Mustang. Also that is a awfull bold statement on your part buy saying that even a fully modified max with nitrous and a SC could not be your old Rustangs 13.7 1/4,so believe me when I tell you there has been Maxima's that have run as quick as a 12.9 that I have heard of so nice try thinking before you make these stupid comments again. And ohh by the way I think I just did compare a Maxima and a Mustang.

Well obviously your stupid and cant read. My stang ran 12.8 on street tires with about $2500 worth of mods. What would that get you on a Max, not much. The 93 Cobra wasnt the fastest going by your #'s my my car ran 14.2 stock. Amoung the Mustang crowd the fastest was the 88lx notchback wich routinely ran high 13's stock. So if you dont know what your talking about dont talk at all. If your ever in the upstate Ny area a friend has my Mustang now with about 220K miles on it and I will gladly run circles around anytime, Ill even give you a head start. and bring some money!!!!!!!!!!
