I'm comparing the ACT NM1-HDMM ('84-'99, 240mm, $380) to the Clutchmaster 06-044-HDKV ('84-'97, Carbon/Kevlar, $550).

The Clutchmaster claims to have long life and smooth shifting, in addition to the improved performance - does it really?

Also, what difference will I feel going from stock to either of these? I've roughed up my stock clutch a bit, probably from accelerating too soon on upshifts - I'm trying to break the habit, but I still get clutch shudder about half the time I'm starting into 1st.

Since I'm basically a street driver who wants great driving and performance, this sounds like the ticket. If it lasts longer than other clutches, the extra cost could be paid for.

Well,

I just had a ClutchMasters Stage 3 HDTZ clutch put in mine car, along with a Stillen Flywheel and I30 VLSD Tranny. I'll be getting my car back this weekend. I'll let ya know...

Peace.

There is no need for you to get the carbon/kevlar setup. The ACT street is fine or even the CM stage one.

If you look around you can probably find them for less .

When you say ACT stage 2, are you referring to the NM1-HDMM? ($374 shipped). As far as I can tell, there are 3 'stages', 2 of which are multi-puck racing disc designs - hardly as smooth as I want. The NM1-HDMM is the '1st' of those three.

hmm, maybe i was just wrong or the price changed. i thought when emax blew his at the meet. not fun. he got an act stage 2 for 274, maybe it was 374. but it was from ptuning. get that one nm1-hdmm though. it's the right one, and a 4-puck one with 4-*** your tranny.

Get the ACT street setup...It can hold up to 385 ft/lbs of torque....and not many maximas put out that much power. I have the ACT and it works great....even with the NOS.

What does everyone have against the Clutchmasters? I think I'm the only one that will try this setup. DMB please tell me why you think its so bad.

Thanks.

Actually it only holds 362 ft/lbs. Go check the ACT sight. The kit with the organic clutch plate.

Now, that I have my car back, the CM stage 3 setup is amazing....All in all its a little on the pricey side, but its very smooth and extremely grabby. I love it...

let me step in here for a second..

ok..

The Clutchmasters..

ScreaminFast.. once you upgrade your pulley and install your pully you will start to notice it slipping.. it doesn't hold power..

The ACT

do not get the Racing Clutch.. it has killed trannies in 6 Maxima's that i know of personally.. i repeat DO NOT BUY AN ACT RACING CLUTCH

the street clutch? well it is rated at 360 tq.. but i know of two maxima's .. one with 397 tq and one with over 450 tq that hold perfectly.. no slipping.. it would be in your best interest to get the ACT street clutch..

hope i could help you in your decisionh

i got the act street set up

at first it was extremly grabby but once i broke it in it works like a dream. the take up is low to the floor. i can chirp the tires going into third. something i could never do w/a stock clutch.

Hmm, I hope not...

My clutch is supposed to be rated at 600HP and like 500 ft pounds of torque...I dont know the exact numbers. Ah well by the time I get to adding that much more HP, I'll have my engine out, so it wouldn't be as big of a deal to put in a different one. Thanks for the insight....Who knows? Maybe the ClutchMasters will hold nicely
