Welp I brought the car in first thing in the morning today. The audio dudes will have it for at least three full days. Here's what they're doing:

Two new head units. One is the Alpine CDA-7977:

http://ecominet2.alpine-usa.com:7777...y=20&p_main=10

The other, of course, is for my MP3 collection -- the new fully digital RioCar with 60GB in-dash:

http://www.riohome.com/products/riocar.htm

Two pair of JL Audio XR650CX speakers:

http://www.jlaudio.com/evolution/XR650CX.html

The speakers powered by a 4-channel n MTX Audio Thunder amp:

http://www.mtxaudio.com/caraudio/pro...hunder6304.cfm

A JL Audio 10" woofer:

http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/10w3.html

A JL Audio 250/1 amp to run the woofer:

http://www.jlaudio.com/amps/2501.html

Also connecting my CHA-S624 Alpine CD-Changer to the new system.

They're building a (hopefully very nice -- we talked about it a lot) custom dash piece to make the area around the head units look stock (this will be my FOURTH custom dash piece.)

Also they are doing nearly the entire car with Dynamat Extreme.

And, of course, last but not least, some custom trunk work for the woofer enclosure and amp rack.

I can't WAIT to get it back!!!

tell us what that alpine headunit is like. i'm interested in getting that one in the future also.

and it looks like your about to get one nice *** system. what kinda shop did you go to get all this done?

a body shop, performance shop (yea right), the wiz (lol) or a strictly audio place?

Wow! that is going to be an incredible sound system. I remember all the problems you had with the last MP3 experiement that you had....I trust this one will be better. Can't wait to see the final result.

You going to like the JL Audio 10W3. I got two 10W3s in an enclosed box and it sounded awesome. Btw, it's powered by a RF 600a4 amp.

When you done, post some pics.

Where did you take it? Curcit City or some local place?
And when the hell do i get to see your car? Im going to be up at higgins beach (scarbarrough) starting the 27th for a week. We should have A MINI max/i30 meet.
Did you know we got another Mainer on the boards. Has name is MaineMax and he's in oakland. we should all meet at the mall or somthing just to look at eachothers rides.

Mostly because I don't care as much about bass as a lot of you guys do.

I and the people I consulted seemed to think one would be enough.

Yeh, tons of problems with the last one, that's why i ripped it out. Flaky as hell and about as elegant as a sledgehammer.

This one will be much better I think, but without the video. Who needs the video, I decided..

yeh sick of it... just seemed too useless. It was, like, really neat for about a month. Then it just seemed stupid, especially since most of it didn't work well.

I am sure you will wake up the neighborhood up in Maine now. Keep us posted and some pics of course. Maybe some os the New England members will get to check it out at the next meet if we ever have one again.

Circuit City? After having FOUR stereo shops work on the car (three of them SUCKED and one of them was OK,) I think Tweeter in South Portland may be the ticket, but I reserve judgment until the job is done. I've seen some of their work and it kicks butt.

Hmm.. yeh post something about it in the Northeast forum we could get some ppl to show up maybe. There's a couple guys in Portsmouth/York too ... perhaps the Mall in South Portland would be a good spot.

I agree, video is a waste in the car, cept for maybe rush hour.. watch a Lakers game in traffic.. haha **** people off. (did this once )

Also, i agree that 1 12 should be nuff, but i went with 2 cuz its cheap. Anyways, this way the gain etc could be lower, but you could still tune the amp setup to get the response you want ..

I am swapping my gf's integra out to 1 12 instead of 2 10s..

i think a car entertainment system (tv/dvd/lcd) is a phase that everyone goes through.

also, i think an entertainment system is best in a SUV, not a cramped car.

Wow. What kind of custom installing are they going to do? I only ask, cause $5k seems a bit on the steep side unless they are doing alot of custom work........
*UPDATE* Never mind, I just saw that they are doing the car with Dynamat.

This is why I hate answering questions about how much something costs, the next thing out of people's mouths is how ripped off I got.

I mean, you gotta take into consideration that the in-dash Rio BY ITSELF is $1899:

http://store.sonicblue.com/dr/v2/ec_...PN=1&V1=312973

then there's all that other stuff...

Anth, have you heard of the Infinity basslink? I want to get that for my car since it claims to fit any factory system. So do you think it will fit? I know you know the answer because your the exeprt of audio.

I'm glad u think I'm an audio expert but I'm really not ...

I have definitely heard of it, and I'm not 100% sure, but I'm nearly certain it would work with the stock system.
