Latest JD Power and Associates 2007 Vehicle Dependibility Study is out
Im not worried about those numbers. I mean... who drives a Buick anymore. And what is the age group of Cadillac drivers. Yes, they are getting younger but there are some factors that play into some of those numbers. The key word being some. I believe some of those numbers are a good census but some I think are off due to the age of some of those drivers in some of the cars and the number of people that actually drive some of those cars.
im guessing that in the vehicle dependability study, they put everything at equal value. i.e. peeling shift **** (?) = oil burning = sagging spare tire well.
so, more points doesn't mean bigger problem, maybe just more (possibly smaller) problems.
EDIT: this little test won't make me change my mind. my next car is the GT-R

what a bunch of homoness here. My '00 Maxima was at the dealer about 6 times in the first 2 years, and add to that the 15 different broken things i've fixed (wheel bearings bad, etc)....
Sure, the engine has been reliable as hell, but this car at 130k miles has had alot more small problems than my '87 Integra (230k miles) or my '92 Accord (150k miles) ever did.
I still love the car, but definitely would NOT give high markes to Nissan in terms of "dependability"
hell, how many people here have blown their weak Nissan MAFs? I've done it twice.
Just admit that we drive middle-of-the-road vehicles and that they have middle-of-the-road reliability and dependability. As for me, I have little interest in purchasing another Nissan vehicle. Between the marginal build quality I've experienced and the complete lack of anything that looks halfway decent in the lineup, why would I?
btw, conversely my wife's Mazda3, in the first 3 years we've owned it, has had only ONE problem ever....a bad 02 sensor.

And seriously, I don't know anybody that uses "car forums" to search for a car. I wouldn't go to a Subaru forum if I was interested in subies. I certainly wouldn't go to Maxima.org if maxima shopping.....because all you get on the "forums" is advice from:
a) homers
b) haters
c) know-nothing morons.
d) guys who mod their cars so heavily they can't remember what "stock" is.
who knows, with new nissans built in america, the quality probably has gone way down. but ive never had problems with my 92 240sx, 98 pathfinder and my 03 max. both vehicles had over 190k.
Statistics 101:
A survey is just that, a survey. A survey doesn't produce causation or even the lesser scope of correlation. A survey is an external opinion gathering poll that at best gives an averaged "assumption". Nothing more, nothing less.
There are wayyyy to any extraneous variables, demographic nuances, corporate biases, marketing ploys, statistical unreliability, skewed surveying, etc, etc, entrenched into these polls which makes creating a top to bottom reliablity survey completely impossible.
C'mon guys, this isn't a double blind randomized experiment with all variables controlled in a controlled environment with subsequent peer review. These are real world (aka unreliable) surveys taken by real world surveyors (aka unreliable) given to real world consumers (aka really unreliable).

I take it, this survey concerns model year 2007 vehicles??

No. These are 2004 model year vehicles. The survey is done with the original owner after 3 years of ownership.
