Anyone had problems with clearing headlights?
This past weekend, I cleared my headlights, and I was amazed when the maguiars plastic-x did nothing to my milky-*** headlights. That's when fellow orgers helped me realize I was an idiot, and I needed to go finer that 1000 grit, and I went to 2000 grit, then finished it off with some rubbing compound.
But, Yesterday, I wash my car, and boom, I need to re-coat the headlights. WTF? Do I have to do this every time I wash my car? If I do, that sucks, I should've just left them alone, they already were pretty damn clear, I was just bored and had already cleaned the rest of my car.
Also, if I put more plastic-x on, and they are nice and clear, there is no way that I can tint the headlights anymore is there. I figure if normal water washes it off, then the tint adhesive certainly will, and I don't want to have foggy, tinted headlights.
Thanks

Come on, 21 looks and no one can tell me what's going on? I just wanted to know about the application of the plastic-x, is there some type of hardcoating I can put over the cleared headlights, if not, can I still tint the headlights without washing off the coating?
My headlights are milky too, I used Lime/Rust remover and got them clear but I think I messed up in the drying/finishing process like you did because seconds later they were milky again.
When you wetsand followed by liquid sandpaper, rubbing compound, plastix, then plastic polish, you are essentially filing down your stock UV protection coat.
The stock UV coat prevents oxidation that causes that hazed, foggy look in plastic headlights over time.
All you need is do is buy some UV coating, and apply generously after you buff your lights out again with some plastix.
