What struts for basic needs?

My stock struts are 11 years old and need to be replaced but I don't need to drop or do anything fancy. An improvement on the handling my '98 GLE would be nice but this is not a driving factor. I plan only keeping my Max for only a year ... maybe two. I see a lot of talk about illuminas and konis but most people are looking for more out of the strut replacement than I am. What struts would be a good basic replacement for a good value?

I have been reading as much as I can find on replacing struts. Thanks for all the how-to-guides ... they will be a great help when I do it.

Thanks, Phil

P.S. The stock springs are fine with me and it doesn't seem like they need to be replaced.

2nd the Tokico blues, very similar to the stock struts at a better price. There is no way I would put a Monroe strut on anything, the blown stock ones would bb better.

Tokico Blues then GR-2's. The KYB GR-2's tend to be more harsh in colder weather. I'd stay away from all else for your replacement.

I hate to ask, but if you are only going to keep the car another year or two, why would you put out the money now for new struts? Unless there are problems I'd hold off and put the $$$'s toward your new ride. Otherwise I'd go as cheap as you can...who cares if U get Monroes, Gabriels, Tokico, Nissan oem or AutoZone's midnight specials! You won't own the car long enough to enjoy the new ride anyway. And I'd check prices with DaveB at SouthPoint on oem replacements B4 you decide on any other brands. FWIW...my $.02.
