My first Maxima and how we met.

Hi, my name is Jason. I bought a 1999 Nissan Maxima GLE(Automatic) on Saturday, August 18. Now, I'm not really a racer, I just wanted a car that was bigger than my last one and a little bit faster with more safety features.

This is how I was able to buy a Maxima. On August 13 I was in a bad car accident with my beloved 2001 Chevy Prizm. A Dodge Ram pulled out right in front of me when he was leaving a Food World Parking lot, I tried to avoid him and when I saw that I was going to hit him right on his driver side door, I turned my steering wheel as far left as I could so that I wouldn't hurt the other driver and also because I didn't want to run straight into him. So I did this for his safety and my own.(Helping me walk out uninjured by putting more metal between me and that truck.) Both my airbags went off, my Prizm was in SAD shape, I knew that it was totaled and I was very upset about it. It was my first car and it never let me down.

Chevy Prizms aren't really fast, but they are good cars and are very reliable. Pretty decent pick up for a compact. (It has 125 HP with about 122 pounds of torque.) It was also a 3 speed transmission, but I never really went fast enough in it to need overdrive anyways. It had good gas mileage. About 33 in the city, so it was a great practical car for a college student with a part time job.

When I saw that poor thing get towed away I was thinking "I'm not going to find a car as nearly as nice as that one, even if the other driver's insurance company gave me what my car was actually worth, about 6300.

Well, I had to find a car, I decided that for safety I'd like something bigger and that had more safety features. After a few days of spending all most all day researching cars I decided that I was going to either get a Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, or a Hyundai Sonata.(I saw the blue book price for a decent Maxima and let's say the price wasn't favorable for me.)

But I had trouble finding those type of cars that I could afford. I was thinking "Man, i'm going to have to go with another compact I guess." I was pretty down about it, but then I saw an add on the Sandy Sansing Chevorlet Pensacola website that said: Nissan Maxima GLE 149k miles, $5500.

At this point I felt a bit better, I decided to take a look at the car, it was the best deal I've seen so far. I looked at some screenshots(I have them on photobucket.) Obviously had a leather interior, looked really nice for the price.

I immediatly went to epinions.com to look at all the reviews for the 1999 Maxima. I was amazed at how much people liked this car. I saw that they were calling it a 4 door sports sedan. I was thinking "Wow, I could have a sports sedan!" I didn't wait any longer, I called Sandy Sansing Chevorlet and talked to a salesman, he said that they still had the car. I went there that night after it was closed to look at it. It had some cosmetic blemishes but it was nothing that couldn't be fixed.

Next morning I went to test drive the car, it drove better than I expected and I was sold on it.(My Dad drove it too and he also liked it.) I drove out of the parking lot with that car after paying 4485.50.(This is the total, taxes included.)

I am very happy with this Maxima, I am going to do some work on it, get the cosmetic fixes at a paint and body shop. I'm very excited. Having a sunroof is pretty cool after all. =P

But this is the story behind my Maxima and me. Just wanted to say hi, I joined this site yesterday and got my 15 posts without post whoring lol.

Welcome to the crazy family that is Maxima dot org, that was a touching story and i liked it.

You can make this maxima be anything you pretty much want it to be: A sports car, an attention grabbing cruiser, a fast handling european sedan. a family car, a winter beater, a grocery getter, literally anything you want it to be.

You picked up a good car, this car has a lot of value in it, for less than 5 K u got sunroof, traction control, most likely ABS and heated seats and mirrors, among other things...just keep up with the maintenance and read up the stickies in the 4th gen forum (thats what u got btw a 4th gen)

and please, when she gets hungry feed her some 91 premium only plz or she will complain!!!

These are the pictures from the website of the car dealership because I haven't been able to take any of my own yet.

If I knew how to make them bigger, I would do it when time permits.

Lol, when it comes to posting a picture that is already small I don't have a clue on how to make it bigger. I'm not very computer literate when it comes to these types of things.

Well, it is an automatic and it has all the features. The VIN says that it's a GLE. I'm not entirely sure if it is actually a four speed though. I could of sworn I felt it shifting an extra time when I was driving it on the highway. The dealership said that it's a 4 speed though, so it may just be me. But they didn't seem to be aware that it needed premium either lol. They put 87 octane gas in it. o_O They also put really thin transmission fluid in the Maxima, which isn't good. So I have to question if they really knew a lot about the car in the first place.(GLE's aren't supposed to have spoilers so that threw me for a loop.)

Also by the white face gauges, only stock on SE and it appears no woodgrain dash either! Either way you made a great choice! The SE is much more sportier lookin! Good job and welcome to the org! Be careful if you get the modding bug, there is no cure for that yet!

they all look the same, se's have the white face guages and spoilers with the 7 spoke rims, while the gle's have all power everything and leather with the auto climate controls. anyway, who cares??? a max is a max.......

^^^^ exactly they all look the same, no difference. and the colour of the gauges does not make a car more sporty. and i am glad ( i got a gxe loaded like an gle but no leather) that i have no spoiler after seeing the rust horror stories and the fact that the spoiler does nothing for you anyways but take up space and put more weight on the car.

besides you can make a gle into an SE with a few purchases from the dealer.

The extra gear you felt on the hwy is the torque converter locking in and dropping the rpm in 4th gear (auto) its a good thing but the tranny is still 4 gears.

the gas is fine the car will not explode from 87 and how do u know the tranny fluid is thin ????

Oops, I said transmission fluid. I meant oil lol. My Dad said that it looks like they put 5-30 oil in the car, which is too thin for it. My Dad is car savvy simply put, but I'm not very car savvy myself. I'm just starting to learn about cars. Based on what you said about the car, I'm going to go with what the dealer said and call it a GLE. The guy might have bought it custom when it was brand new or something, or just added the spoiler later.
