Is this a good deal? (Maxima Lease)
My wife and I are looking to lease a car and I saw an ad for a 2007 Maxima SE for $169/month with $2168 due at signing.
I was wondering if this was a good deal on a lease and also if anyone had experience with either of the dealerships offering it (Bayridge Nissan or Manhattan Nissan) of NY. This will be my first time leasing a car as I've always bought my cars (used) with cash. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

yea i wouldnt say thats not a bad deal? although they do try to trick you with that stuff alot of times they post those prices just to bring people in the door. like for instance my brother just got a Mazda 3 they said 99 a month for 24 months with $3000 down now the total came out to be 140 a month and the finance guy admitted we just put that price just to get people in the door. although we didnt get a bad deal but the payments on 99 a month dont expect your payments to be 169 a month. and more then likely the car would be bare. meaning there would be no extras in the car you get whatever car they have that there selling that price for.
plus they say you only have to put down 2g but usually and for a maxima its alot more so call them up and asked them whats the total money you have to put down excluding taxs and all that other good stuff and see what they say

It seems way too good to be true.
Yeah, that seems a little cheap to me, I don't think you could lease a new sentra for that price. This seems like the old bait-and-switch trick to me.
"Oh I'm sorry Mr. ****** but that only applies to the base model, with the metallic pink paint and sapphire blue cloth, with 13' red-spraypainted sawblades. We just ran out, but we have this one right here, the top of the line, elite package, nav, autopilot, flux capacitor for only a few dollars more per month!!" (With a big cheesy salesman grin) "How much more?" you ask "Well, that all depends on your credit, but with 3k, +tax+tags+dmv fees @ 10 miles a week allowed for 6 year lease, with a low,low price of $3 per mile overage fees, I am sure we can 'let this go' for $325 a month"
That's exagerating, but you get the point...

The only reason it's exaggerative is because you failed to mention the greasy-slicked back hair do. Now that's a sign of a real deal.....
Oh yeah, you forgot the not-so-optional hail damage. I'm sure they'll throw that in IF you buy the one for $199 a month.

Well their ad shows 24/42mth lease at 10k a year. Can you stay under 10k a year??? $.18 each mile over. Are you running or prepared for 100k/300k insurance coverage (required for most lease companys). Are you prepared to sport a stripped out Maxima?? These types of ads are designed to get you in the door, the sales guys are ready to move you on up to the car you want. Keep in mind the car is an 07 so they are blowing out last years model. Also keep in mind the $169 is plus tax (I'm not sure about NY but in most states you pay tax on each payment not the total) I've leased a number of car for my wife (she likes new cars... F'n money pits) I all ways look at the payment, and don't buy down the payment up front (cap cost reduction) I like to make the first payment and tag cost only, why put a bunch of money in a car that's not mine. Also remember when the lease is up you have nothing, well you could have a bill if the car is damaged or the tires are worn out (my wifes last car 3yr/36k lease tires only made it 28k)
If you like to trade cars and don't mind paying for a new car a lease is great, just stay with in the terms. You will have more money in the bank in your future if you can buy and keep a car 10yrs or so.

If your goal is low payments and you are unsure if you want to buy the car, consider a "balloon" loan. The payment structure is similar to a loan ( low payments ), but at the end of 5 years you still have a balance that is usually the projected value of the car. The beauty of this loan (other than the low payment amounts) is that you can get out of it (buy, sell, trade) unlike a lease.
