Does our cars have a MAP sensor, or anything to calculate the altitude your driving at. How does the ECU knows the difference between sea level and above. We all know that atmospheric pressure drops as you go higher in elevation, so the ECU has to increase the injector pluse width to compensate for the lost of pressure, but how does it know the elevation you're driving at. I was looking thru the service manual and notice it mentioned nothing about such sensor
The reason I'm asking because on my journey today, I notice as the elevation increased the engine felt like it was holding back. But, as I returned to lower elevation the power was there, no problems. I would guess that my journey took me from sea level to 1000ft above, the elevation was continuosly changing. For those who's firmiliar with I-5 in the northern/central Cali area and the Altamont Pass near Tracy
This is not the first time I noticed such a decrease in power at high elevations, kinda getting frustration when I can't pull the hills like the other guys, later. One more thing before I forget, it felt good cruising at speeds 90+ at hours at a time. Of course you have to use your own discretion. And my ride looks nothing like my signature pic you see before you, should have invested in a bug deflector
