2002 Stock Max vs 2001 modded

What would you buy? The 2002 has more hp/torque, but we don't know how it will perform yet. It has a bunch of new features, but is it worth $3-5k more? Would you rather use $2k to do some after market things?
I like the idea of 255 hp but if it only going to be 2/10 of a second better 1/4 mile time than I might not want to go that route.
Waiting for magazine reviews of both the Max and the Altima.
