For those considering getting the UPRD ECU upgrade for your 97 Maxima.
How do you plan to get a 96 ECU (auto's or 5 spds)
Are you gonna find one at a salvage yard or buying one
thru Chesbosta ??. With the ECU itself being $450 minimum
and a 96 SE ECU thru Chesbosta for another $150-$200.00 more
I just wondering how many people that are looking into how
much they are from the salvage yard. Anyone priced them yet
or actually bought one yet from a junk yard ????. I'm not
saying that Chesbosta is over charging for this ECU..just
wondering what they go for at a junk yard...I'm sure they
vary from place to place.....

I live in Denver and was going to start calling around
the Denver area for a 96 SE 5sp ECU....I'll be removing it
myself if I locate one to be sure its the correct year,
trans type and if it is from a SE...

How are you guys handling this added purchase/ECU ???

look around for an ecu, a friend just bought one for a 97 auto for $50 from a local salvage. Ches is way over priced. Maybe I should buy and sell them!

 

sorry if you think it's overpriced, but that's what they go for here in Sourthern California.
$150 is cheap here.

 

question...

Is the chip the thing that makes the 97-99 maximas slower than the 95-96's?

 

Does "Chesbosta" or anyone else know if there are any side effects of swapping out the 97 ECU and putting in a 96? What is the difference between the 2 ECUs?

 

it's spelled CHEBOSTO.

side effects might include the MIL to come on. but so far that's the only problem i've seen with the 96SE ecu in my car.
