Ok....I've had these pads a year/13k miles and they need to be replaced.

I get a lot of squeal when they warm up.

The pads/brakes are *starting* to chirp as I drive(meaning inpending replacement)

EBC claims they don't dust at all. BS....they dust a TON.

I think the braking is only marginally better than say nissan oem. Maybe I can't tell since I have drums in the rear.

They were installed correctly.....at a nissan dealer.....they even used NEW shims and anti squeal compond. I had NEW nissan rotors put on when I was there.

SO...my question...what do I get next? EBC red? I afraid metalmasters will chew up my rotor and I'm nervous because I'm going to have to have it ground down cuz there is a slight vib at higher speed braking.

The kicker is...I'm EASY ON MY BRAKES. Whatever was on the car before lasted from 38K(when I bought the car) untill 60K(when I put the ebc's on).

Why only half the life?

rant off....

Great...now you post this. I just ordered a pair of EBC Green Stuff for the front brakes(not available for rears). I got them mainly because EBC claimed that it doesn't produce much brake dusts. Right now, I got the Metal Master brake pads. I have to say, these brake pads brake very good. However, they do produce a lot of brake dusts.

I have heard opposite of this from other people. They say that the EBC Green Stuff produces very little brake dusts. Hm...I guess I'll have to find out for myself.

Hmm....sorry I didn't post sooner. In a phone conversation with ebc(like a month after I got em) I told them about some on/off squeal. He said a heavier import such as the maxima is harder on the greens than say a 2700lb sentra. He recommended the reds....but they need warm up time. I live in buffalo....If I'm flying down the highway at 20 degrees outside and I need stop.....I DON'T HAVE WARM UP TIME

I may try metal masters. Did they eat your rotors? Squeal?

Actually....maybe porterfields....but i hear they need warm up time too.

I'm putting metal masters on my car with slotted rotors and SS lines next week. I have 37k miles and currently have a stock brake setup, so I'll post my impressions once I finish everything. I was considering buying EBC greens or Reds, but I ended up with Metal Masters because of their recommendations. I live in TX so warm up isn't really important to me, but stopping is

Once again, false advertisement. Stillen claims there Matrix pads won't dust as much also. Lets just say my wheels look like gunmetal as of now. I think the only way to go to reduce brake dust is to go carbon fiber but these pads will eat up the rotors.

I had EBC greens on my 4th gen and they were great. They dusted like crazy. But the initial grab of the brakes were at least 30% better than stock. If not more. I thought braking was much improved. No need to warm them up or anything. Mine wore out in about 10k miles. If you don't mind the dust and the wear. I would still recommend the EBCs.

Mike S.,

Welcome to the party.

The 4th gen maintenance sticky has a post on brake part numbers with a link to a thread where I lament the EBC pad's overall performance. My two main knocks on it were:

1) Dust. EBC should have a lawsuit brought against them for false advertising. I have documented proof through DAILY pictures of my front driver's side wheel over a week or so period. By day 3, my wheel was basically black and nasty.

2) Pad life. The were already worn down significantly after only a few k of driving.

I also recall trying to get your comments/warn you about these, but I was never able to get in touch with you about them. Now I know my impression of them is not isolated. I do take issue on their performance. I thought their performance was a little worse than the Metal Masters but quite a bit better then Nissan OEM, ESPECIALLY when they're cold.

Also, while the EBCs are REAL easy on rotors, the MetalMasters really aren't that bad on mine after 8 or 9k. Visit the 4th gen maintenance sticky on ordering yourself some MetalMasters. I am VERY pleased with mine.

To everyone,

DO NOT BUY THE EBC GREENSTUFF PADS. PORTERFIELD PADS WILL YIELD BETTER PERFORMANCE AND LONGER LIFE, EVEN THOUGH THEY DO DUST LIKE THE GREENSTUFFS. The Porterfields are also supposed to be easier on the rotor at the cost of brake dust (Haven't seen anyone running them refute that). I don't hesitate to recommend Metal Masters or Porterfields.......as specified in the 4th gen Maintenance sticky post in the 4th gen forum....

So, do you guys suggest I should stick with the Metal Masters? I love the braking of the Metal Masters, just not the brake dusts. However, from what you guys are saying, the EBC Green's are even worse. Great...what am I to do with the EBC Green's now? Maybe someone will want to take them off my hands?

Hmmmmm......my Metal Masters' dust isn't noticed by me until day 10 or so..it was day 3 with EBC Greenstuff...that's also the main reason why I like them over the Porterfields. Otherwise, I would be running Porterfields.

Cumalot,

Crap I wish I had kept the e-mail. There is a member here who PM'ed me last week wanting them for "testing". He is obtaining 4 or 5 different pad types and comparing them on his car. He wanted to buy mine for $20 or so.....can't remember who it was though.....You should post them up in the 4 Sale section and maybe he'll see them...

But if you say in your message that they don't dust a lot, I'll have you banned for blasphemy.

But don't Metal Masters have terrible fading? One of the members complained about that after he almost rear ended me going to a meet. He wanted to go back to stock.

For testing? Hm...interesting. When I get the EBC, I'll post them up in the for sale section. Thanks Bill.
