Equal to Y-pipe and saves gas?

OK, was watching early morning (3:30am) TV when this commercial for the Tornado comes on which claims to increase power and fuel economy. Basically, it is a stainless steel contraption with fins which reputedly creates turbulent air for "better gas/air mixing." Although I'm skeptical of most products, including the magnetic fuel line contraption, this claims to have dyno results to back them up! They even say they were product of the month from Hot Rod magazine.

They only list results of a few test vehicles but they seem to have gained 10% fuel economy and 10% more HP. Unfortunately, most are late model cars. To boot, the thing costs $69.98, some 10x more than it should from the looks. It does have a 30day money back guarantee though.
What do you guys think? Does it make sense?

I'm serious, if you just give it a little thought, you can see that it's total BS.
Ok, first the general idea... Yes, swirl in the combustion chamber does promote better fuel distribution and more even combustion. BUT, even if this thing did add swirl to the stream, as soon as it got to the throttle body, it's all just regular turbulent flow from there on down.
Next, this thing is a bunch of metal vanes placed in the intake tract. The only effect this can have is a reduction is overall cross-sectional area...thus LESS FLOW. Any gains from swirling (assuming it made it to the combustion chamber, which it doesn't) would automatically be cancelled out by this reduction in overall flow, and thus volumetric efficiency.
I guess they count on people being half asleep at the hours they advertise this piece of crap.

And don't forget... there's a sucker born every minute. Half-asleep suckers are odds in their favor. ![Big Grin](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

If you buy that thing..........you need to get your head examined.........It would be like asking a doctor to put
one of those in one of your veins to make your blood flow faster so your body would have increased performance...... he would laugh you right out of his office because he knows it would kill you just like this tornado thing will diminish the air flow of your engine......it's suicide.
