I had a similar problem on the front driver-side door.
We just took it to the dealer and they fixed it. Not sure what they did, but I'm pretty sure its just grease or something that was added.
Now its fine.

There is a hinge on the door. Let me try to describe this. There are a total of 3 hinges. There are 2 big ones then a small skinny one. That skinny one is what controls the door stopping positions. That is the part that needs to be replaced. My 96 and 98 had those replaced under warranty with some newer black plastic ones from the gold metal one it had. There is a technical bulletin on it somewhere. Hope this helps.
