cbr2 is the man, he should own nissan quite honestly

drives perfect, I LOVE IT!!!!

now that all the pain of doing it is over, and I am not 15 hours away from home (I drove to jax. fl to do it), I am soooo happy and think it was totally worth it...!

Good job guys, I have some comments however.

You guys have really groovey name! CBR2 and HLH0501 Harold. Are these your real names?

Whoose car did you crash?

Isn't life alot easier if you just buy a manual? You will even save more money for not paying an auto!

Hey man, let me just say this.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You dont know how much this means to me. I've been looking for this detailed instructions for 3 years now. I dont know when I'll be able to do the swap, but I'm gonna print out your instructions and give it to the shop if I find a good enough shop. A local garage quoted me $500 bucks to do the swap. I think that sounds like a good deal.

If I save enough money, I think I'm gonna drive down to Jacksonville so you and your friends can do the swap. I live in DC metro, but I'd drive to Alaska if I knew a group of people who can do this stuff. How much did you say you'll do this for? I"m willing to pay upto around 800 bucks.

Also, do you have any tips on how I could get all these parts? Even if I locate a 5spd Max in a junkyard, I can't just go there and rip off all the parts myself. How should I go about doing this transplant? I am really determined to do this because I'm 24, have a real job and saving couple thousand bucks in 2,3 months is feasible because I'm living with my parents for the time being.

Please respond or write me an email.
ethan_kang@hotmail.com

THANKS A BUNCH.

You, CBR2, emax95(the header guy) is a group of most bravest men I've met in my life.

I suggest that this post becore sticky, and that you might want to submit the writeup to www.maximadriver.com . The more places that link to your writeup the better.....

link should be working

I dont know why the link wouldnt work.. it works for me...

I live in Louisville, KY and drove to Jacksonville, FL to do the swap (that is where CBR2 lives) to clear that location stuff up...

As far as doing it, 500$ doesn't sound like too bad of a price, but its 90% just a clutch job.. then you do the pedals, shifter rods/console, the couple wire taps, and install the hydrolic lines.. Your done.

CBR2 or myself might be interested in helping the guy who said he wants to do it, email me...

As far as finding parts, find a yard that will pull the tranny for you, and in the process of pulling the tranny they will have to remove the driveshafts, tell them you need those - or pay someone to go yank all the parts you need.. that or do what I did.. find someone(cbr2) that has a donor car you can sit yours next to and pull from.

Glad you all like it, and yes I will be putting it on maximadriver, vqracer, etc soon enough (want to check again for typoes and stuff)

and this coming from the person i had to talk out of this. i really want to get the 5-spd but i don't know. i could strip my car down in like 12 hours and then change everything over in another day or so. i would have to get one with a tan interior so i can switch a-pillars because i drilled mine for the gauges. but i just don't know

how's your gear box feel? i've ridden in an auto->5speed conversion b4 (skimaxs') and its fairly stiff to shift.

how much did u sell off your auto tranny for?

argh dont do it. Anyways i dont think im getting another Max. Ive found all the cars im looking at and ive narrowed em down
a 99 Black Prelude 5 speed
2000 Blue Civic SI 5 speed.

Whenever i get one of these cars im taking my stash and going F.I. I know i can get the Civic to low 13's w/ a JRSC or a Greddy Turbo kit. Heh BTW, you guys think Stillen is expensive, what about friggin MUGEN !! 500 bucks for a muffler. It does sound tight as **** though.

NO Don't fall to the darkside, it's not worth it. stay with the force. Unless that is unless you are afraid of a little torque. because my powerwheels has more than those cars.

Dude no. I know plenty of Civics that could smoke your *** in a heartbeat, in fact, smoke anyone on this board. Ive seen SI's with a JRSC and a few other mods hit low 13's. The best ive ever seen for a max was a 13.8. One time thing.

Im trying to find something more sporty. The maxima just isnt sporty enough for me. I cant find an Integra type R for under 20 grand. Too bad.

Nah Don ran a 12.8. And he is auto.

Not to flame or anything but i just wanted to mention that there plenty of 13 sec maximas. There are also a few 12 seconds here. Just to name a few guys.

Steve in Chicago has a 13.5 auto.

i30krab has a 13.5 auto I30.

Phil96SE has ran 12.8.

Confused is mid 13's.

SX7R.. he is low 13's.

Loren00miata is mid 13's.

MY4DSC was high 13's

Don in Texas is hitting 12's (auto) and now doing all motor for 10-11 sec runs.

Steve in Philly from 10-11's

Mardigrasmax was 13.8 but now playing with a S/Ced and NOSedc motor which was Steve in Philly.

I know these arent the greatest times but we do deserve some credit. Nissan doest have much support in teh aftermarket area when compared to Honda.

Steve in Philly's 10-11's pretty impressive only if there was video of it!!! I want to get in the 13's but dont have $10K to waste! Most of these 10-13 second runners are 5spd, goes to show you what a max is capable of!!

Great post! This should definitely go into a permanent record on the Org somewhere. Jambo, handle that for me would ya? Thanks there buddy.

One thing you didn't mention is how much it cost you for all this. Its obvious you did the work yourself but can you offer any comments on parts cost?

prices

well it was actually verrry cheap in my opinion... umm here is the breakdown..

I honestly have a poor memory, but I will try and remember these numbers correctly.. bear with me (I got it all VERRRY cheap thank god!)

originally I had an agreement with the guy in jacksonville to buy all the parts for 500$ and then 300$ for him to help me and do the conversion... I spent about 100 in random tools once we were there.. we ran into HUUGE problems though, the 5spd tranny we pulled from our donor car, once we totally completed the conversion and put the car down on the ground ready to go for test drive... we realized the car wouldnt shift into gear, and the shifting rod inside the tranny was bent (because the car was wrecked and we have TERRRIBLE luck!).. so the very next day we called a junkyard and bought one for 500$, '96 w/ 40k miles I think... pretty cheap again

so all in all, I had 500$ for tranny, I payed the guy 300$ for helping me and for parts, and around 100$ for random stuff.. if you want the real breakdown, another 100$ in gas to get there and home, and well I wont go into the food prices haahah...

so basically I had almost a grand in it, and after a new clutch I have over a grand in it, buuut my automatic tranny is fs, for 650$ so that will bring the price waay back down.. few hundred dollars for a 5spd conversion...

whoever asked about the feel of it... it feels awesome, just like other 5spds... the clutch still has some little minor issues (gotta wire in my reverse lights this weekend.. etc) but everything runs AWESOME... verrry fast now too - still running my automatic ecu

Glad you all enjoy the instructions...
