As some of you know, I recently hit an 18 wheeler. I called Nissan today and they told me that the total cost for a front bumper is around 5 bills, that's including the bumper, reinforcement and bumper support. After that, I asked how much installation would be and they said another 5 bills.

This is crazy, I don't got that kind of money, hell, I can't even afford a gasket.

Has anyone ever installed a bumper themselves? Is there a how-to in the Chilton Manuel? Is installing a front bumper easy? I really need to save money, so is installing the bumper myself a good choice?

When I had my front end re-done...the bumper cover was about $200-$250...plus about $65 to re-paint it. If you want to save some $$, I've got a couple pieces from my '98 GXE in the garage. I've got the reinforcing foam insert for the front bumper. It is intact and not damaged as far as I can tell. I've also got the grille (chrome). It's discolored in a couple spots where brake fluid dripped onto it. two of the 5 brackets to attach it are broken off of it, but it would probably stay on w/ the 3 that are there. And you could probably re-paint it easily if the spots were too annoying. (two top and one bottom center brackets are there). I've also got a left (I think) headlight assembly. Not sure if it's damaged or not, I'd have to look. Make me an offer if you're interested. They're just sitting in the garage right now.

Hey Will-
Would you consider gettin an aftermarket bumper? Say from salvage yard. If so, try www.car-parts.com and see if the bumper parts are available in your area. I was looking at over $7,800 in parts and repairs if I went with brand new OEM parts for my Max. If you want to save money, salvage yards are a way to go.

Good luck.
