This is for my own information and for a fellow 4th gen'er who's thinking about getting his car repainted. I'm looking for quality paint jobs only, not for something that has to be redone in a couple of years because of poor paint/workmanship...etc. Any input would be appreciated.

Key questions:
1) What type of paint should I use? (type of paint, brand/method)
2) Where should I go? (type of shop, national chain, license/certification?)
3) How much does it usually cost?

Brand really doesn't matter, as long as it's one of the nice names like Dupont, Spiezhecker, PPG, etc. It's all in how they spray it and prep your car. Go to a local shop, national chains aren't the greatest for really nice paint jobs. And cost varies by region. In Socal, it's probably cheaper than it is here in GA due to competition. I'm getting my car painted right now and the cost estimates were anywhere from $2800-$4000 for a color change. If the car is getting painted the same color, it would be less. I'm getting it done by a friend's shop so it's less, but with all the custom bodywork I had done too, it would have been like $5,000 for everything.

1. PPG is a quality brand to go with. Plenty of major car manufacturers conform to PPG paint quality.
2. Try checking out local bodywork shops, more specifically, check out the paintjobs they've done on some cars and see for yourself their workmanship.
3. Like Shadow said, price varies by region, size of the car, paint brand etc. Median price I'd say would be anywhere bet. high 2Ks to $3,500 for a high quality paintjob for our Maximas.

Wow! Thanks for your input Shadow and 97MaxGurl. Repainting will actually cost a lot more than I had thought. $2-3K is a definitely grip of $$$.

With that said, what are some things that you should look for in determining the quality of a shop's work?
