for those who have used wire looms )those tubes you use to put over wires)- how close can you use them in the engine before they start to melt? also what kind of tape is used in teh engine bay? is it regular electrical tape or is it some kind of hi-temp kind? I want to replace all the black tape and use red.

I just use electrical tape. I have never had any wire loom melt on me and I used wire loom on a lot of wires in the engine bay

I have some red tape on some wires in my engine. No signs of melting yet. I plan on putting in those wire looms soon. Have fun with it!

The only melting I've seen is the one near the alternator... other than that, none at all.

I'm about to get the Vitek engine dress up kit, it's heat resistant to 1200 degrees and comes with heat shrink ends. I think it looks a lot better than that dayglo neon plastic loom that everyone seems to have.

yep, I saw ur engine. Im planning to cover up the black with red tape and red wire loom everything else. right now I have some black looms on but they are far away from the engine. I just wanted to make shure where is safe to put them before I waste all my money for red looms and end up with red melted plastic instead.

ok I did some wire looms and I taped the thing that holds all the sensors that are on the engine block. I live in a very hot area where its 100+ outside and I am still concerned of the tape melting. has melting been a problem with anyone yet?

No melting problems except for the one near the alternator... you shouldn't have to worry about any melting at all.
