One thing I noticed about the new Altima is that the doors have a somewhat tinny clunk sound when you close them, much like the rest of the Nissan cars I've come across. Not the fridge door solid thunk sound Audis, Camrys, Accords and many other competitors have managed to give their doors.
To me, this shows they have missed the mark if Nissan thinks they have achieved parity with the competition when it comes to built quaility with the 2002 Altima.
But at least they don't ring like empty garbage cans like the 2002 WRX doors do.

We were all born yesterday too. A 2002 Mercedes, entry-level, supercharged, starts at 25k. Fully loaded is 32k. Oh please...let me have the Altima for 2k less.

Pluheeeeeezzzz....the same cra* was goin' on when the ugly 5th gen came out. Sales people only giving 1000 off list (what kind of suc** would buy a 5th gen for 27k???) Six months later it was invoice.

more like brand new car big price...
if you take a look at the new Altima...granted, it's a sweet looking car..but i can't see myself dishing out 30K for that car...it just doesn't make any sense...

for 30K, you can buy nicer cars...with better reputation and image..

Altimas have been around as reliable, affordable, and economical cars...30K isn't really that affordable since you can still buy 2001s for less than 20K....

just saw the alty today

the paint had bubbles in the clear!! a 30K 3.5SE Altima, and the paint looked pretty bad up close. there was some orange peel (about the same as other cars tho), and there were odd lines on the roof, like you could see the passes of the robot with the paint. Very very minor blemishes, but still... you'd expect some better quality.

For the Maxima to be at $26,000, leather is not the only thing missing. Also missing are:

Bose® Audio System (In-Dash) $1099

Meridian Edition™ $399

Nissan Navigation System $1999

Front Side-Impact Air Bags $249

Power Glass Sunroof $899

Traction Control System $299

Helical Limited Slip Differential $399

Carpeted Floor Mats $79

Splash Guards (4-Piece) $119

Sunroof Wind Deflector $69

Next time, please compare apples to apples. Also, what's so shocking about the $30k sticker for the altima? That's the same sticker price as the 2001 loaded maxima, except you get a 3.5l v6 with 240hp, irs, etc, etc.

yeah right...

apples to apples.. go to your local nissan dealership and start sorting the apples and oranges. talk about confusion. even the salespeople havent a clue what to sell you. they waffle back and forth on which car to show you. Its pretty confusing.

I truly feel sorry for the buyer of the 30K Altima. I hope he really really likes it. He will have to keep it for a very long time, or opt for financial suicide on resale. Aside from how bad the max resale as been, any car with that much disparity in the base and loaded prices will just kill the fully loaded resale. thats any make/model.

Don't be dramatic. I don't think a person who can afford to get the fully loaded $30k altima is worried about resale value. as for clueless salespeople and picking the altima or maxima, they are supposed to sell you the altima if you want a family sedan on par with camry/accord. they are supposed to sell you the maxima if you are looking for a sportier car than the camry/accord. of course, if you drive a maxima, they will try selling you a new maxima.
