Does anyone else's 4th gen clutch inconsistently suck???
Sometimes the clutch take up on my car is really quick and jerky. It makes me look like I'm a virgin stick shift driver. Sometimes I feel like I have to give it a little more gas to keep from stumbling the engine and other times I feel like I'm slipping it too much. I've driven stick shifts since 1990 and this is by far the most inconsistent clutch I've ever driven on.
However, it seems relatively strong. It never slips and always grabs hard when I need it to. 60000 miles and still going strong. Maybe the clutch I lasting longer because I don't slip it much on a WOT launch.

Yeah I had my 95 Max wiht original clutch at 120K
and it still grabed good. But the clutch did all those things that you described.
I think it is poorly enginered clutch on Maxima.
I have the same things with the clutch on my Brand New 2000 SE.

Yep dave, i have the same problem....
sometimes my car will stumble when taking off because it engages immediately and sometimes it feels like i'm burning the thing up because i am slipping it so much. weird. I haven't really found out why. Sometimes i think it's the shoes that i wear. i get a different action with different types of shoes.
but the clutch still holds very well. i only had it slip once on me. not too bad.

I glad to here it, everyone
I just read in an old Motor Trend that their long term 95 SE did the same damn thing. They too felt like they had never driven a stick before. I think it has a lot to do with the hydraulic system of the clutch. I think it's constantly adjusting back and forth.
I've tried and tried and never have gotten this thing to slip which is most impressive. I've got 20 1/4 mile passes on this thing and everytime at the track it will chirp 2nd real hard.
I was talking with Bryan H and he said when the clutch starts wearing out, it will actually get lower to the floor because it's hydraulic. If that's true, I've got a long way to go. Clutch take up is still pretty high like it's always been. I think when it comes time to getting a new clutch I'll just get another Nissan one.

Chebo
I remember Chebosto about 3/4 year ago asked about this problem and got it fixed. He might have some answers.

clutch
I have 56K on my 96 GXE, and I am on my 3rd clutch already, I had some trans problems so they replaced it for me free the third time. Before it was just dead. But I am having the exact problems you guys talk about. What can be done, what aftermarket clutch assemblies offer the "luxury" shifting? My friend who drives a stick too, stalled my car twice, and 2nd gear jerks like crazy.

i know my clutch is bad
and going out too.....my clutch has actually started slipping now. I do not get 1-2 chirp anymore. i used to get itty bitty chirp 2-3 but now nothing. will upgrading to act clutch solve all clutch inconsistencies?
Hmmm... very interesting... Ok, so its not my driving. But everybody is right... clutch engages very quickly sometimes, other times, it slips. Oh well.. i'll try not to loose any sleep over it, and just hope my passengers dont think I'm a really bad driver.
