What gives w/ these Eclipses??

In the last week, I've lost to 2 different Mitsu Eclipses going North up from Bethesda on I-495-->I-95. Both times were between 1-2AM.
First one about 4 days ago, was the lastest style Convertible
V-6 "spyder". He was playing w/ an integra as I pulled up on him. He saw me, and the Elcipse took off after me leaving the poor integra far behind. I stayed ahead of him by a car langth until about 120, at which point he started pulling on me slowly...my car wouldn't pull hard at all after 130, and he just crept up slowly until he was ahead. We exited on 175 and got stopped at the light at the end of the ramp. We chatted and he said he was suprised that the Maxima could get up and go like that, said he was worried for a bit, and asked if I was stock (yes), and jokingly said that the Integra probably was still miles back down the road playing catch-up.

Last night, same part of road, this time a previous gen. eclipse (no markings to indicate it was a GS-T or anything)...similar deal, we take off, I overtake him at about 95 and gain 2 cars by the time I hit 130. Then the same damn thing happens as the last time, but a LOT more dramatic. He very suddenly gets some "oomph" and just leaves me in the dust...he must have gone from 125 to 150 in a few seconds easily judging by the way he pulled by me. I hit 140, and he was still pulling farther ahead. Should he have pulled that hard from me? I think he was spraying. Maybe? I don't know...are they that fast at the higher speeds? I thought they had a limiter...obviously not.

first you have a auto, if you had a 5 speed it would be a little different. Autos are just slower up top. Get some mods it might help(y pipe). The new generation eclipse is slow. the older ones where the real fast ones. With the awd and the 210hp turbo engine it was a nice pocket rocket. Too bad they are made crappy. Just keep on adding stuff and one day you will go 160 and wrap around a tree

Have you raced him on the bottle? If so, did you win and by how much? I have never raced a GS-T or GSX, yet.

A Turbo decent mods should beat a stock 5spd and auto everytime. the non turbos are slow as hell. The new V6s will get smoked by a 5spd, but still pull 6.9 0-60s so the autos will have problems.

dsm owners soup they're cars up ALOT (sometimes) and with awd they have a big advantage over us.

yes I admit i laugh at the majority of them because they pull 10 second 0-60s with the stock NA engine and auto... but I KNOW i'll have that smile wiped off my face someday soon.

I'm not gonna get into detail, but I saw him at Cap this summer....low 12's, well over 400+ hp, man he took me and my friend for a ride and we almost got whiplash! don't sleep on those Eclipses!

I think it would be more even if you had a y-pipe... but you still won't pull like a 5 speed on the top end.

and I hope that I never lose to a new eclipse... they are UGLY... but I do have repsect for the older ones - even if a lot of their drivers are a-holes to owners of anything else.

Hmmm.

I haven't lost to one yet but I've never raced one above 120. Maybe the DC crew should stake out 495 in MO county and get his a$$ for you#;>)

0 points here.. The most points I've had during any year is 1. I don't see many speed traps on 495.

Hey. C'mon guys. Take it easy on DSMs owners. Were not all a-holes. Although, I do have to admit, a lot of us are (but not me).

Just cause its automatic doesnt mean its slow. Check the sig Nothing special, but it is automatic, and its pretty quick.

No, it was a 5spd. It was my friends car. We ran 4 times and every time the result was the same.

Haha, I knew someone was gonna say this next. But no, he doesn't need lessons, he is an excellent driver. Why can't some of you just realize that DSM's aren't that fast.(here come the flames...) 5-7 car lengths at 115? 4 times in a row? Yes, he beat me off the line but after 3rd gear it was over. Ok what's the next excuse?

I hate to take sides or anything but before i owned my 99 Max. I had a 90 Laser (T/E/L). Stock, they arent anythign to really worry about but if they have basic mods & upped the boost, good luck. It doesnt take much for them to go 13's. Granted, they are fast but i dont feel they are reliable one bit. That is why i did end up sellin mine. That and the fact that the tranny dropped 3 times in 6 months.

The problem wth DSMs ia that some are reliable (like mine) and some are horribly unreliable. You only hear abot the unreliable ones, so most people think they are bad cars. But your right about going very fast for only a few bucks, it soooo easy.

Quality? Sure. Refinement? OK, ya got me on that. But thats not what you said, you said they werent fast. And I want raw power, not refinement, for my fast car. The reason I am now looking for a Maxima is so I can relax in a car. The reason Im keeping my Eclipse is so I can go fast.

Apparently they are not that fast, because I walked one by 5-7 car lengths at well over 100MPH four times in a row. The driver was competent; the car was in excellent condition. Yes, with all of your add-ons and whatnot, I will be eating your dust. But stock for stock I doubt it, and that is all I meant.

No, he said he would lose.

Maximas and Eclipse are two different types of cars. They really shouldnt be compared. Maximas are luxurious sedans, while Eclipses are sports cars. Stock against stock, the newer Maximas are about just as fast a turbo DSM, but I dont know anyone who still has a stock turbo DSM. DSMs really show their power when you start modding them, thats where they shine. Who cares what they do stock, cause anyone thats into cars (luxury, sports, or whatever) doesnt leave their car stock for long.

Im not trying to start a fight guys, Im just defending my car.
