theft questions

1st question, if a Club takes 10 seconds to defeat, why does nearly every car use one? Not that many people are that stupid.

2nd, what do alarms and/or chips in the keys accomplish? I know the chipped keys are a pain in the butt with rental vehicles.

I watched a tow truck ****** a 2001 Mercedes S600, took about 75 seconds. Obviously that car would be protected to the hilt. It's alarm went on for about 15 seconds before the driver somehow disabled it. Obviously professional thieves would go with this method too.

Re: theft questions

If someone really wants your car they'll take it. BMW's are supposed to be impossible to steal. That's why most of them are taken on a flat bed. Alarms and clubs don't really help. I think alarms are very annoying. It might scare a little kid who is playing ball near your car. That's about it.

Security systems do a lot of good if they are well-layered. The blinking red lights go a long way to discouraging thieves. I've had my car remain completely untouched while lesser cars of friends had their windows smashed in, sitting right next to mine. And if the only way that somebody can steal my car is to drag it onto a flatbed truck (which wouldn't be possible in most parking lots), then there is hardly anybody who is gonna be successful at stealing my car. They'll just break into the defenseless car sitting next to mine and call it a day.
