Question about automatics chriping while shifting to second...

I have a 96 SE with the normal mods Y pipe/CAI/ yes it is an automagic but the shifts are not tight enough. I previously owned a 91 Acura Legend Sedan auto the car weighed about 3400 lbs and had 200hp and 210 ft/lbs of torque and even with 180K miles I would get a distinct chirp as it shifted to second after I would gun it. I do not recall if it went to redline but the Maxima shifts well, but I am no where near chirping the tires. I will say with the Maxima the downshifts in the 40-60 feel stronger than the Legend did. Does honda make stronger transmissions or does Nissan ecus not push the trannys to shift at higher RPMS.

Thanks

Pat

They only way you are going to get the chirp is forced induction or a ValveBody upgrade. You can then chirp second with a completely stock setup. www.mobiletek.net or www.levelten.com

First thing i would have don e was the VB mod. The weakest point in the Maxima is teh auto tranny. Get the VB mod to eliminate this problem.

I have had my VB mod since 20k miles & its 20k miles later. Tranny still never misses a shift & shifts faster then a 5spd ever will. 5spd guys are amazed at how fast it shifts (so that is respect there).

My 1st to 2nd gear really doesnt chirp but sometimes wheel hops or just flat out breaks out spinning. This is ony when i have my steel rims on. WHen i run my chrome rims i get chirps. Its a beautiful thing.

Synki, I had Sprint and his two cousins in the car with me and we STILL chirped second(VB kicks ***)! I can get wheelhop occasionally, but its usually the chirp I get. Then again I have never driven with the VB and 15s on.

2 places. Either go to Level10 in NJ (if your close) or talk to "Don in Texas" on this baord. He has done most of our VB mods.

I guess you didn't click the 2 website links I provided. Oddly enough they go to 'Level10' and 'Don in Texas' websites.

WTH? I had Don's VB on for about 2 weeks. I have yet to chirp second gear. I'm riding on my 17s though, do the rims affect it in anyway? And yes, I was flooring it.

Also, is it the tires? I got Dunlop SP9000 on my Tantrums.

I CANNOT CHIRP SECOND!

It must be you then. Everyone I have talked to has been able to, even the big rim boys.

Synki said he doesn't really chirp 1st to 2nd either. I do get a sort of a hop, but not a chirp. Hm...then again, most of the time I had my music blasting, maybe I just didn't hear it?

There you go. You should be able to get SOME type of wheelspin.

Its amazing the type of noises you hear from your car when the volume of music is down. SOme are annoying creeks and sometimes its your tires chirping.

Well, that's the primary reason why I always have my music on. Everytime I turn the music off completely, I would get a few odd noises from time to time. Maybe I been blasting my music for too long because some people told me I have a hearing problem. What? I said I think I have a hearing problem. What? I said...

Chirping into 2nd is largely based on the condition of the tranny clutches, valvebody line pressure, fluid temperature, tire/wheel combo, and most importantly the surface conditions. Some streets are simply more slippery than others. It has been my experience that flat/wide low profile tires are much more prone to wheelspin. My 235/45R17s would spin so dramatically into 2nd sometimes that I'd have to back off. It was fun to show off, but it slowed me done a lot. My 215/55R16s only chirp into 2nd now.

I wouldn't be too worried if you can or can't chirp 2nd gear. My modded automatic 94 Z28 would chirp 2nd every once and a while. It ran mid 13s with or without the chirp. Most modded Grand Prix GTPs pushing nearly 300fwtq and running AWESOME 4T65E GM trannies rarely chirp into 2nd and still pull low 14s/high 13s.

I sometimes chirp second, sometimes spin a little(off the bottle), depends on the temp outside, if it's hot it doesn't usually do it. I have the transgo kit and 225/50/16 Kuhmo's...
