Guys with Intrax springs
I installed a set of Intrax in place of my Suspension Techniques springs because I wanted a lower drop. The drop looks awesome (1.8" gap in the front and 1.4" in the rear) and the ride is very good for the drop. The bad news is I'm getting some mild noises from the front and rear. On potholes, there is a very audible metallic clunk coming from the front assembly. The rear makes a mild metallic clunking on certain rutted surfaces. On gravel roads, both these problems are easily heard. On big bumps, the suspension feels fine and makes no noise. I've already pulled apart every assembly and checked all the isolaters, bearing, seats, bolts....everything. Everything is to spec torque (top to bottom). The exhaust is not hitting the car.
Are you guys experiencing any noises with these springs? What in the world could it be?

I have had my Intrax for three years now and I have noticed that sound. I think that the noise is just the spring rubbing on the strut perch. One thing that you can do is wrap the top coil with rubber. With 66k miles, I still have factory shocks/struts and the Intrax still ride comfortably. I am still waiting for the AGX's

When i had my In-Trax in, i never had any problems wiht noises up front but it made a funny clunk noise. I think its b/c its a pretty low drop and i also ahve a RSB and i think their might have been interference. Its prolly not but it was an idea. It only made noises when i was driving over a rough road. The ride is pretty nice, handling is there and the road is firmer then stock.

yep.. i clunk, noticed it like 2 months after the springs were installed.. the guy who installed them said it was normal.. so i sit here not worried about it 5 months later.. I am going with GC's soon anyways.. drop it to the ground.

Yep, those are Intrax alright. I haven't had them on a Max but my Altima had them. Worst ride I've ever had, and the springs sagged 2 - 2 1/2 inches, and they clunked all the time. I will never go with Intrax again personally.

I had my Intrax for about 1.5 years and never heard the clunk you were talking about. It just clunked when I bottomed out. That's strange that it only happens on small bumps. On small bumps, there was never any noise with my Intrax. It may be the spring rubbing like AGNismo said.

The springs are isolated from metal to metal contact on the top by the large rubber isolaters and the bottom coil has a vinyl tubing. All I can think is that the coils themselves are hitting each other at the more closely spaced coils (progressive part of the spring). It makes some sense to why I hear the noise on ruts and not on bigger bumps. The ruts make for just enough deflection that coils contact one another lightly. Seeing that the Intrax springs are the same length as my Suspension Techniques when uninstalled and then are 1/2" lower in the front and .75" lower in the rear when installed, makes me think the coils are touching more often due to the same amount of coils, but a lower drop.
BTW, the Intrax actually ride better than the higher stanced STs. Handling is also better.
