powder coating rims...
I found a place that does power coating. I'm going to their shop tomorrow to ask a price quote. I have a few scratch marks on the two driver side rims. Will power coating fix the scratch marks? Also, what do you think of gun metal? That's what I'm thinking of getting. Any other color suggestion? I'm not going to do white though. Thanks.

So, what do you guys think about powercoating the rims gunmetal? Look good or not on a superblack Maxima? I have seen a superblack Max with gunmetal Volk's and it look really nice.

I had mine done for $300 for Powdercoating and $25 each rim for Sandblasting..
see they have to sandblast the rim to get the orginial coating off.. so the rims are all naked and stuff
if your scratch is just on the clearcoat then it will probably be sandblasted off.. if the scratch is in deep on the rim.. they it will be there when the wheels are done

recently I read
on one of the import mag... they actually use chemicals to remove the paint... but never the less after power coating... and baking it.. it looks amazing....

Hm...your gunmetal look a bit different than Matt Calder's. Although, Matt's rims came with the gunmetal color, right? I like that shade of gunmetal, a darker shade.
As far as the scratch marks, there are a bit deep. You think the same place I'll bring to powercoat the rims can fix that? I guess I get what I paid for. I noticed the rims chip and scratches easily. Ideally, I would want Volk rims, but don't quite have the funds yet. How much do they go for anyway?

I am pretty sure that they can fix your rims. I guess just ask then and see what they say.
On the volks, it depends on what type of rims you want. I know the brand new te-37's cost almost $200 more than the rims that ming has. I think 1MAX2NV said mine cost over $3000 new, I bought them used.

I just came back from the powercoating place. The price will be $60 per rim. Not too bad. However, the guy there told me the rims won't be sandblasted. He'll just clean the rims thoroughly and put the powercoat on like that. As far as the scratch marks, he told that I could sand it down myself until it's smooth, it shouldn't be too hard because the scratch marks are only surface scratches. This place didn't exactly have "gunmetal", closest to "gunmetal" was "walnut". So, I went with that. He told me it will take him a few days for the power to come in, should be in by next Wednesday.
Btw, me and Matt(Mardigrasmax)will go racing Friday night at Hattiesburg. hehe...let's see how much the VB will help. Too bad I don't have the S/C in yet.

putting powdercoat over clear coat.. but i dunno...
its always good to get the bare rim and start from there... but everywhere is different..
if i were you .. call this place.. 1-800-491-7382 called Firecote.. thats where i did mine.. ask them the advantages and disadvantages of not sandblasting..

Yeah, I got to talk to them again. The guy there said the rims don't need to be sandblasted because they already are powdercoated. WTH? I guess I should have told him forgot the rims have clear coat over them. Maybe I should just tell them to sandblast the rims anyway, even if it's a bit more expensive.
My friend had his rims powdercoated and they sandblasted the rims to make sure that there was no chance of soft coated spots or flaking later.
I'll ask he for more info. He did lots of research before he picked a place.

So just about any color you can think of. But it'll also be limited to the place that you get it done at.
