Experiences With 9004 Wire Harness

For those who have the APC wire harness or any other wire harness for that fact, how is it? ANy problems or down sides? What is the wattage that you can put in with the new harness and where can I buy it?

I heard about some people still have problems with the APC harness because of the ground.. Cheston's site suggest to ground at the fenders but wouldnt water be easy to get around there or does it not matter? Where can I get the APC harness?

In the fender shouldn't matter, as long as you don't have power running into the fender also. If you do that, you're going to have major car problems, not to mention laying in a hospital bed, wondering what happened. Believe it or not, water would actually help it ground better. I grounded mine on my upper radiator support.

I got mine from www.autodynamic.com. It wasn't hard to put on at all. I put it on one day on my lunch break. I'm running 80/100's in it now. Before the wiring harness, I burned up my fatory harness. I've had it for about 3 months and haven't had a lick of trouble.

DO NOT GET the autodynamic harness.. i ordered one from them and one of the sockets had a loose ground wire and when i emailed them and emailed them and called, they wouldnt respond and wouldnt take any responsibility.. APC offers a warrantee with their harness.. go with APC's.

I ordered the APC harness from carparts.com. I havent had trouble with shipping from them so hopefully I can get it this week. I also ordered the APC Plasma super white bulbs from autobarn.com (recommended, fast shipping) I hope they will go well together.

Upgraded Harnesses..

I've been thinking about the upgraded harnesses a lot lately, mainly because I'm working on killing no-name brand harness #2 ..

I think the problem with the harnesses melting is more a power issue than a heat issue. (or, a heat issue resulting from a power issue). The only harness I've had burn out on me is my right one. The left headlight works perfectly, has never been replaced, and shows no sign of melting. This leads me to believe that by upgrading the wire thickness for the right headlight, you'd be able to get away with having stock harnesses, without spending $50+ on one of these harness kits that could burn out just as easily.

Anyone know how heat results in a circuit like this? And if you'd have to change the power wire, and/or ground wire to fix it?

Ive had the APC harness and APC - 9004 Plasma Super White Xenon 80w/100w in for about a year. No problems at all. I recently took a 2800 mile road trip and did mostly night time driving. The APC's on high wattage are absolutly increadable. I could see the reflections of small highway signs and road way reflectors 6/10ths of a mile ahead!!! However in fog the hyper white color made it hard to see.

How must more light do the 80/100s throw over stock? I've heard some people that say it makes a ton of difference, some not so much. Anyone have some pics maybe?

I think all of those harnesses are a rip off. The stock wires are fine and can handle the load that over wattage bulbs put out. They just can't handle the heat. The stock harnessess are too flimsy and are made of cheap plastic and will melt with the use of overwattage bulbs. A cheaper alternative is to get a beefier harness to plug your bulbs into. Go to a junkyard and look for an 89' or 90' Volvo with 9004 harnesses. Clip off those harnesses and clip off your stock harnesses. Splice the Volvo's harnesses into the stock wires and solder. Now you have harnesses that can take the abuse from overwattage bulbs.

Dont pay all that cash for the APC

I got my from SUVlights.com for $30 on the groupdeal they had. I still have it I never had any problems with it, if anything it made my lights brighter, but not as bright and pretty as the Purple HIDs I have now.

I got APC wire harness 80/100W with APC bulbs.. got it used from a fellow member, had it on for a few months now, no problems

Only problem I had a few times at first is with one headlight going dim, but you just gotta make sure you ground it really well. The metal panel things on the frame could be rusty, I suggest you clean them off and tighten the bolt up really well.

But the light difference is noticeable, they are brighter in my opinion.

APC harness >>

THe harness itself holds up, connectors and wires are fine. But after about 5 months, the relays crapped out on me. If you buy them and this happens to you, simply replace them with BOSCH relays that can handle up to 30amps.
