well Im kinda late to get the emissions but was wondering if any ppl in CA here had their test and if so, what are their procedures? what do they do besides sticking a tube in your pipe? BTW I have a cone HAI, y pipe and stillen muffler. did any of you CA ppl with y pipes leave theirs on? any problems leaving it on?

Well, just make sure you've driven your car for a while (over 5 miles) before taking it into the shop. A hot engine burns cleaner than a cold one.

Good luck with emissions. My car passed with flying colors last time, but I only have a JWT cone. Technically any intake or emissions component which does not have CARB exemption will not pass CA visual inspections. But the shop I take it to (Quality Tuneup on 19th Ave in SF) doesn't care. Usually these $25 smog check places will not even do a visual (certificate is $8 extra). Don't pay more than this for a smog check.

I had my smog check an hour before I installed the Y-pipe

At the time, all I had as the intake and UDP, passed with flying colors. An hour later, I had the Y-pipe installed. I just wanted to play it safe. If you're worried, I know in of a few places in SoCal that will pass you. Basically any Vietnamese run shop on Bolsa and there's a tuning place in Irvine. $25 will pass ya.

INSPECTION

Heres how my 4 hours was spent. Drove the car about 70mph for 15 min or so before I went to smog it. When I got there I had to wait about 10 min for my turn so I was all scared that the car would cool down in thet time so I left it at idle. They tested it and it failed one thing in the visual test which was because one of the air sensors was not plugged in(ambient air temp?) and also it failed the idle test which was 103 (100 max allowed) and he said it might be because im running rich but I knew it was because of the y-pipe. I was ****ed but they said to plug the sensor back and fix whatevers wrong and comeback to check again for free. I got home, switched the cone back to the stock airbox, plugged the sensor back in, left my y pipe on and drove it again for 10 min at 70mph. I also ran it pretty hard in the city while getting there too had to wait again for another 30 min so I left it at idle. He checked it again and I passed showing

2500rpm
HC: 0
CO: 0.00

idle 704rpm
HC: 0
CO: 0.00 woohoo

Any idea as to why you failed the first time. Was it the sensor, cone, or just that the exhaust was not hot enough?

I failed 2 parts of the test. First was the visual which is because I didnt have one of my sensors plugged in(think its called the Ambient air temp) The other was the test where its done at idle. He didnt say anything about my cone intake though and didnt notice I had a y-pipe and no pre cats. Im pretty shure it was because my y-pipe and the exhaust temp was not hot enough for the cat to do the job. Other than that, nothing else was wrong so just drive it hard until its nich and HOT
