i have recently raised the idle of my car from 550 - 800 while the car is at an idle in park. will this screw up anything in the car by messing with the TPS???

I've tried...

and the car just resets it right back...I've tried both extremes messing w/ that screw, including resetting the ECU with the new settings...each time, it moves right back. Good luck though.

whats that hissing sound???

When I adjust my screw and raise my idle my intake will start to give off this small hissing sound. Is this normal or should I not adjust it to this point?

Surprising

Hi guys,
How do you manage to adjust the idle velocity with only one screw? As far as I know the idle rpm is stored in the ECU's RAM and cannot be changed.
Maybe you're adjust the TPS (simulation of slightly pressed throttle pedal) instead of the idle ?

Regards,

adjust idle..

i have adjusted my idle screw from 550 to about 700. it seems to be fine. no stalling. i have heard that a rule of thumb is not to adjust over 2/3rds of the original idle speed. so if the original is 550rpms then it would be 733rpms, max. (thats just my info),i just turned the screw (counter-clockwise, i believe it is), and listened to the idle until it sounded smooth. not to push anything upon anyone. it's cold.

hmmm... newer cars they ecu just sets the idle back to stock. it works on the old school carberated cars tho. i'm not sur ebut i think the afc can also do idle rpm.

I have done it, no problem

Greetings,

I have done the Idle rise with the screw setting. Didn't have to disconnect the sensors.
I have raissen the Idle from +- 500 to 800 rpm. It has not gone back down by itself.
I have a 96 SE though (that may be the reason).
I noticed though, that after I istalled my Stillen Y the idle dropped about 50 rpm, I think this is due to the new compensation values the ECU has converged to. I might have to rise the extra 50 to get back to 800.

I have a 97 SE auto and I used the screw to bump up my idle so my steering wheel would not shake at night with lights on. I did notice two things in adjusting the screw. 1. The more I turned the screw I got a louder hissing sound from around the intake. 2. I noticed a ticking sound also as the idle got higher. I set mine so at night in drive with lights on the idle is 650rpm. no more vibratating wheel, no ticking, minor hissing. I have had this set like this for a month and starting, performance, MPG all seem fine.
