I heard from my friend that works at a dealer here locally, that Nissan just sent them info on next year cars. The 2002 Maxima is supose to have 300hp, and not 260. The altima will get the smaller V6 from the MAXIMA as well.

300hp oh man, oh man!

300hp???

Wow, imagine the new Z! Maybe it really would be able to take on the S2000 with such a hp/torque advantage.

Unfortunately, this prolly means the 3.5 will most definitely be an option for the Max. I guess 300hp is just too much standard power for most cars, especially a Nissan.lol

when is the last time a dealer knew

ANYTHING before us.... ever...

come on.. You know, my dealer can spin gold from vacuum hose. man, i can go to just about any dealer and ask them how much HP a max has NOW (with a big @ss poster behind them screaming 222hp!) and they will say, I believe that has 212 or 229 1/2. some off the wall crap. I dont take stock in what they say. They also dont know what a TSB is.

hmmmm

300bhp sounds a bit too high to me. I wonder how they can squeeze that many horsepowers out of a NA 3.5l v6. (Reminds me of the 300bhp Chrysler 300M) For sure they can find a way to do that, but that will be too costly. Isn't the Maxima a mainstream family sedan?

Leave the Maxima as is and give us something similarly to a GS400.

That's what I thought, but then I said its 260, he said he has it right there in front of him if I wanted to see it. It said 300hp. I was like okay

If that's true,

and I really hope it is,then I have a problem I have to figure out if I want a 2002 Max or wait one more year and see what the 2003 is like hmmm.I guess I will kick it in to hardcore saving mode now ohhwell it will be boring but it will pay off in the long run.I fugure 300 HP sounds like it could be realistic because the Nissan Altima might be getting over 200HP so if the Max get's like 300HP then it will maintain a higher performance standard over the Altima as it does now.

You guys are silly. The picture in this person's sig is from the nissan-usa homepage. It's the 3.5 in the new Pathfinder. Don't believe everything you read.

if the pricing on the ann. edition is any clue...

I suspect it will be way over 30K for the model with the "300" hp.

Re: when is the last time a dealer knew

No joke! My sales droid told me that they got the extra 5 HP from the anniversary edition from larger pistons. LOL.

The picture does not tell the story, except what the engine will look like. The uncomfirmed fact is that the Maxima will have a 3.5 engine next year. Reports of the HP output range from 240-300 HP. I suspect this will be an optional engine or for the SE only, possibly a SE-R.

I agree. i have no doubt that there is going to be something special in the upcoming maxima. I am just saying that just because somebody comes up and claims that the picture in their sig is from the new maxima (when in fact it's from the pathfinder) and tells people that they are driving it right now that people shouldn't just believe that. Anybody can be anybody on the internet....that's all

No news officially...

Nissan's keeping tight lipped until after the 2001 NY Auto Show in April. At that time, they'll be able to tell us a little more about it. I'd consider everything else rumor at this point.

~260 is on the money if you use HP and displacment

as constants, the a 3.5L should have 259hp.

222/3=74
74*3.5=259

The extra 1hp is from the GTR badge!

To get 300 the compression would need to be raised to ~10.75/1. It might be posible if the ECU is advanced enough to activly control the motor at WOT.

I think 260 is more like it... 300 is too high. Although... maybe it'll have 300 hp because it will be BIG AS A F'ING BOAT!!!! Honestly, I hope they don't kill the maxima and make it a huge Q45-ish car. =( I don't care if they make the altima to step up in it's place, the maxima is a sporty car and should not be made into a wanna be benz.

There are a few things I am wondering right now....

Will it have a 5-spd option?
What will be the approximate price tag? 30k$ or so?
Will the redesign for the 6th gen, or whatever change the *** of the current car?

Also, how powerful will the V6 on the Altima be? I'm gonna start saving for the Max anyways.

if honda could squeeze the living sh*t out of their 4 cylinder (about 100hp/litre) why can't nissan squeeze just a little less than that out of the big *** 3.5L????

Is this 300 hp going to grab the ground through the front wheels or back wheels (or all wheels?).

Is the platform/body going to weigh 3500 lbs+

Is it going to have properly geared 5 or 6 speed manual tranny?

Or a 5 speed auto tranny?

Is it going to have good or terrible gas mileage?

Is it going to be affordable?

Is it going to be expensive to insure?

Is it going to look and handle like a sports sedan?

These are the questions that come to mind.

The Nissan power plant is very refined, smooth and comes in much lower than a hunda. They could do it but the general public who are going to but Maximas want a smooth car, not somthing that dosent make any power till 4k.
