Which way to install progressive lowering springs?

This is a weird question. When I installed my Intrax springs, I installed them with the tighter row of coils at the top of the housing. This was the way my Suspension Techniques springs were installed. The Intrax directions are not specific on which way they are suppose to go in. When installing the springs as I described, the Intrax writing on the coil is upside down (all the writing says is "Intrax and a model #). I actually tried installing the springs with the wording right side up, but they wouldn't seat correctly and would actually "bow" when I lowered the car onto them. I decided that if the ST springs were installed tight coils at the top, the Intrax must be the same.

How have you guys installed your springs?

Really? That's odd. I wouldn't think it would matter either way. I don't have to worry about any of that with my GCs though

yup.. every hole i drove over.. the bottom of the car would hit the ground.. not the wheel hitting the well but the bottom of the car hitting the ground

Thanks for the reply. By looking at the way a suspension system works, the wheel usually travels up and down while the body remains suspensed (unless you hit multiple big bumps and holes). Therefore, the softer portion of the spring would need to be at the lower end (larger spaced coils) so that they get worked first before the stiffer rate coils come into play. This would make for a smoother and softer initial ride. If the springs were reversed, I believe your car would go from overly stiff on small bumps and then completely bottom out on larger bumps. Does that make sense? Maybe that explains why your car rode so bad with the springs reversed.

I wonder how many people might have their Intrax springs upside down because of the writing on the springs themselves? Maybe this is why so many people have had problems with them

Dave-

They are installed right. The closer spaced coils should be up top.
