Got boost?

My S/C is finally in and running. Many thanks to Matt for all the help. He did an excellent job. So, what's the total for all the parts Matt?

Well, what can I say? I'm not much for words, so I guess I can express what I think of the S/C by the following: it's more of a WOW!....not really a HOLY ****! That pretty much explains it.

Matt, you were right, I couldn't get traction at all. I think the crappy, stock tires have a great deal to do with the traction. I wonder how my Dunlop SP9000 will do once I get the rims back? Hopefully, much better traction then the stockers.

I couldn't really tell without the gauges, but I think there is a boost leak somewhere. I'm not certain, maybe or maybe not. Then again, maybe this is how it is with an auto S/C Maxima.

Btw, anyone here has a S/C with the Blitz BOV? I didn't really notice any PPSSSSHHHTTTT sound like on turbo cars. There was some sort of sound, but not what I expected. Matt can confirm this, he didn't hear it either. What's up with that? Is this how it suppose to be? Man, I want to have that PPSSSSHHHTTT sound, so I can show off!

Congrats!

If you want PPPPPSSSHHHHHH... loosen the screw on top of the BOV. You'll get it to go PPPPSSSHHHHH all day long. Don't loosen it too much... probably go somewhere on the halfway mark on the length of the screw.

Getting traction is a whole other story now. I had NA launching down pat, but with the SC I can't get a perfect launch. I guess practice will make us better.

Have fun and don't blow your tranny within the first month.

Btw, have you run at the track yet? You should get very good numbers.

You're welcome. Haven't gone to the track yet because we're waiting for Turbie to finish his turbie/motor swap.

Parts... hmmmm

It is at the point where is dosent leak air at idle. Is it ok to set it so it leaks air at idle? I didnt think this was ok. Any looser and the BOV will be leaking.

wassup with the 3 posts Matt??? hahaha, yea dont loosen the BOV screw all the way cause youll juss leak air out when you boost. You have to tune it to what seems best.

Season's over Kev, maybe next year.....thats prolly when ill work out all the probs anyways! heeh

I have a question. At idle when vacuum is high my BOV is open nd just runs back to the turbine, and as soon as I floor it (no vacuum) the BOV closes and I get 6 psi. My BOV is a stock one from an Mitsu Eclipse, do most aftermarket ones remain closed at idle? When I idle, I have 20" of vacuum, and its opening the BOV. AS far as I know its not leaking during boosting.

Also does the stock FPR give you any more fuel pressure if boost is being applied to the vacuum port? Just wondering, I need a FPR, but lately my car has been running pretty good, maybe the ECU does adjust a little bit over time to the new parameters.

Yeah, I want to know the answer too. I just adjusted the screw and you can definitely hear the BOV, but at idle, there is air leak. So, maybe I adjust it too much? Kev did say adjust the screw half way, that's where it's at right now. I agree though, I have to test and tune it to see what's best. So, the question is, should there be any air leak at all or is it ok to have some air leaking at idle?

Air doesn't leak out at my halfway point... try tightening it again and see if air leaks out (keep doing it until it doesn't). Play with the setting until it's optimal.

dont you want the BOV to leak air at idle? If its not spitting air out at idle then the pressure will build up and to spit it out the intake wont it?

with this sc setup your not building boost until around 3k.. you don't want boost to leak out.. otherwise u will loose pressure at any rpm above idle = bad idea

Hey, stop picking on those Boosted cars. You know your auto like me. And that means we are ... <gulp> SLOW.

You know that blue thingy in our trunk is only for dental use.

I don't want air to leak out. However, I want to have the PPSSSHHHTTT sound noticeable. Hopefully, I can adjust it, so there's no air leak, yet still have a very noticeable PPSSSHHHTTT tone to it. I'll adjust it tomorrow.

Just an update:

I just went outside and adjust the BOV. I know why there was an air leak before when I was messing with the BOV. I didn't put the hex nut back in and tighten it before testing it. Anyway, I adjust the BOV to the half of the screw, tighten the hex nut, and then test it. Guess what? I got the PPSSSHHHTTT sound, plus no air leak. So, it's all good now.

What I have left to do is to do the custom CAI, change to colder spark plugs, and hope my gauge pod will come in soon, so I can put the gauges in.

I installed my Blitz straight out of the box without adjusting the screw. What length do you have of your screw and how long is the full length of the screw? Thanks in advance!

The length is about 1"-1.5" The easiest way to check is to just take off the screw and go from there. I have mine at about halfway down (about 8 or so full turns). Make sure you don't leak at idle though.
