Anyone familiar with the Nissan L24 engine?

In our engines class we were assigned a engine to work on and we have a Nissan L24 engine which nobody knows what it came off of. We did some searching in shop manuals and ended up with 3 possibilities. Either a 240z, 810, and one manual said it came off of a maxima. Its an inline 6 2.4L. Anyone know what Im talking about?

83 maxima has them as it's an inline 6. Not off a 240. Reason I know is me and my buddy were talking about it last week. He has a 83 maxima sitting in the yard.

I wouldn't think you would say "not off a 240" being a 510 fan! The L24 IS a 240Z motor!!!

If L series motors are your question Nismo? I can tell you all about it.

Now Gumby 510, there was a L24E but he did not say "E"!

Re: Anyone familiar with the Nissan L24 engine?

I know exactly what you are talking about. The L24 series is a inline 6(like the others said) that displaces 2.4 liters. It first came in the 240 in late 1969(hence the 240 name) Later models were 260, 280. Each displacing 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8 liters. All were inline 6. this engine also came in the first "maxima", the 810, which was RWD. I believe another inline 6(L26) came in the 710(a hideous looking hatch).

This engine is a great engine to learn on. Great block design and good head design. Also very simple. Learn how to tune those dual SU carbs!
