(possibly) New info on 6spd maxima's!

I just got back from my Nissan dealer and I talked to the owner of the dealership for about 15 minutes. He told me very clearly that he was just at a meating a few days ago about the 6spd maxima. He said the 6spd maxima is now only going to be produced with the HLSD, there will be no none HLSD 6spd maxima. He also said the production has already began{oct 1st}. Aparantly nissan wants to cut cost and just supply the one transmission. If this info is true or not I really don't know, but I do know that this guy was very, very noligable about nissans and is a huge car enthusiast. He said the 6spd HLSD will be at his dealership around the 7th on Novemeber. This info is from R.I., it takes 28 days for a maxima to come to the loading docks of NJ{from Japan} then a few more days to get to R.I. I tend to believe what this guy was saying just because of all the stuff he new about everything and I meen everything! Really cool guy.. I guess we will just have to wait and see waht happens .

Why would Nissan make an open 6-speed tranny in the first place? If it's only available on SE models and all SEs have HLSDs, then why bother anyway?

Another thing just came to my mind. The Sentra SE-Spec V is using the same transmission{6spd HLSD} and it just went into production, so this means the maxima 6spd tranny is obviusly available now, so this helps back up the news I heard.

I am not 100% sure, but I think the v-spec is still a 5 speed and uses a torsen LSD

Car And Driver did a comparo this month of the SE-R V-spec against VW Jetta 1.8T, mazda mp3 and another car. The SE-R was last! (4th). My point though is that they complained that the 6 speed in the SE-R has a terrible feel...Hopefully the one in the maxima will be tweaked.

What's with "prolly". Sounds like a 5 year old or a 95 year old with no teeth

just coincidentally, my local dealer, who i've been asking to call me when he got a 6 speed in, left me a message today saying the same thing about it only coming with the HLSD, and there would be a bit of delay (in their mind they thought they would have a 6 w/out LSD soon) before they had one. i figured he was FOS and hadn't a clue, but it looks like i was wrong.

i wouldn't go with car and driver's judgement to begin with on our upcoming 6-speed. btw, why a 6-speed on the se-r?? it's an awesome sentra, but c'mon now... only with a car such as s2000 can i justify 6 gears on an L4. in any case, who cares what their complaints. the VQ35 coming with the new max will embarrass all!!!

The reason the Sentra and the Altima got bad reps for their new trannies is because Nissan (for who knows what reason) has switched from rod shifting to cable shifters....cable shifters have a very "numb" feel to them...and then new max ALSO has this downfall.

My buddy has an '89 SHO...and he hated the cable shifter in that thing so much that he bought the rod shifter upgrade kit for $1000 bucks. If that doesn't tell you how bad cable shifter I don't know what does.....

The Jetta has a cable shift, too, but the car mag didn't gripe too much about the VW tranny in the comparo test...but I will: I had a '99 Jetta VR6 5 spd and the tranny was terrible - notchy, tough to engage, very vague. However, the shifter on the Passat is solid link and is one of the sweetest gearboxes I've driven....

Nissan needs their head examined for going back to cable shifters on the Sentra and Altima - if the new 6-spd Max is also a cable shifter, I may be looking at a Passat or some other piece of German hardware instead
