Whos taken their resinator off?
Today i went to install my stillen y-pipe at my friends race car shop. We put the car up on the lift and tried to take the bolts off where the oem y-pipe was attached to the cat but they were too rusted. So we are gonna have to torch them tommorow. Along with he y-pipe installation he wants to cut off my resinator and custom weld a staright piece of steel. My question is with a striahgt pipe on my car how loud will it be and also how much hp will i gain with my the straight pipe attahed to a focuz muffler?

I have a Cattmans' y-pipe and custom catback with the factory resonator eliminated and it was so loud that when I revved the engine you would feel the floor vibrating next to the car( no joke ) I had to go back to the muffler shop and have them put the biggest resonator on whicg was a 36" w/ 4" casing. Now it sounds just right to me. Its deep but not obnoxious.

i do not have a resonator. i have a custom exhaust and it's loud, but i like it. it is more of a 100 hertz loud rather than a 5000 hertz loud. it is a deep low rumblw. kinda like the earky 90's mustangs. hope that helps

I have a custom "extended" B-pipe with no Resonator and mine sounds great. I really hate the loud "rice-burner" sound.... you know that "hey look I have a Honda Civic that sounds like my lawnmower with no muffler on it" kind of thing. Anywayz I was worried that without the muffler it would be too loud without one, but it really doesn't ... at least with the 2001 variable back pressure muffler. Even when I get on the gas and the straight-thru opens, it just has a low soft growl. (Sounds mean) As far as HP improvement goes .. I am afraid they are neglegible at best... I just had my car dyno'd on Monday and I came out at 182 ft/#'s and 171 hp with an Auto which seems to be just right for a mostly stock Auto.
