Raced an S2000....sort of...won?

We were next to each other cruising at 45 when I slammed the pedal, went up to 60, he slammed it around that time and caught up to me in about 3 seconds (i remained at 60), his motor whined SO LOUD I thought he was on a motorcylce. We stopped at a red light, it turned green we slowly crawled...then BEWM!$@#!%! I stomped the pedal, rpms jumped to 5500 (remember im an auto, with intake and exhaust). I pulled ahead. His engine was SSSSCCCREEAAAMING like a motorcycle...but he wasnt getting anywhere?!?! He was still behind me! I was like, WTF? I kept pushing it untill 85 when a car pulled in front of me so I had to slow down.

It was fun, but weird? I mean...technicaly he didnt beat me, but the way his engine was screaming, I thought he was going to blast by me like a fighter jet.
Can anyone explain this to me? I know those suckers can go up to 9000rpm, but damn compared to the shreiking sound his engine was making, my engine is a gerbil sounding one.

Let's just say equal drivers in both cars, an S2000 would take a Maxima each time, unless you got Don's super Maxima.

Perhaps the S2k driver didn't know how to shift. Or maybe he was just playing with you. Some people who drive super fast cars don't bother racing slower cars because they know how fast they can go already.

I also raced a S2000 about 2 months ago. It was from a red light but I wasn't sure he wanted to go. So me being an avid drag racer, I was quick with my reaction to the green light. So I take off first but I didn't punch it. But out of no where I hear a LOUD A$$ roar coming from behind so I floored my Max, redlined 1st and chirped it into 2nd. I then looked to my right thinking he was next to me but nope. He finally caught up at the next redlight and wouldn't look over. Oh well guess he was embarrassed

I can spank an S2000...and I don't have don's max...

I wouldn't call the S2000 "super fast" It's more of a road course car than straight line.

i thought S2000 goes 0-60 in like 5.8 seconds

too me that's superfast for a $30,000 car.

plus it looks very good and aggressive

Z28 does 0-60 in 5.2 and it's only 25 grand

Do you know what you have to do to get an s2000 to go that fast? Try an 8000 rpm clutch drop from a dead stop..if you execute a normal launch from about 2K to 3K the thing runs low 7s 0-60...I wouldn't exaclty call that "superfast"

A $25k Altima can do it in 5.9...

Nice kill! I personally don't like those S2000 too much! I don't care how fast they should be or can be.

This must have been a four year old behind the wheel.. if he was in VTEC and wasn't going anywhere then he can't drive.

The engines do make a lot of noise when you get them up into the higher RPM's, but I love it. We took Shing's out to an airport a few weekends back and ran it on the runway.. man what a sound.

yeah but an altima isn't RWD, and doesn't have

an LSD. plus the S2000 is a convertible and you can get way more chicks with the S2000 than an altima

and as for the Z28, yeah it's a superfast POS

S2000 sounds a lil lawnmowerish to me. Nothing like the the sound of a Boxter or M-Roadster both of which sound awesome. What can you expect out of a 4 banger without torque?? Hell my max sounds better than an s2000. I like an engine that has a deeper growl rather than a High pitched whine. Unless of course it is a true Formula 1 car or Ferrari.

I dunno about that chicks thing. With springs, rims, and tint the Altima is going to look supa pimp. I've pointed out the s2000 to some girlfriends and they either say "that's cute" or is that a "Miata"? Either way the Maxima rocks!

PS You can fit 3-4 chicks in an Altima or Max. Triple your flavor and triple the fun all in comfort!

S200's are fast, but you have to literally drive the hell out of them to get them going. They don't have very good torque, which is something I couldn't live without. I love the way I can leave it in 5th at 30MPH and just let the torque do the rest.

Actually I have driven one...drove a silver one with a factory body kit 2 times over the summer. On of my friends owns it. I wasn't impressed at all with the power below about 5 grand....until then it feels like a quick civic...and it's a VERY loud raspy sounding engine. I do have to say I love the tranny, and the handling is AMAZING...but it is NOT a straight line car. I just can't live without torque.

yup

motor trend says that the s2000 has virtually no torque under 3500 rpms, and you have to rev that thing like crazy to get it to move. theres this one guy at school who has one, his car is loud but it seems like it doesn't go anywhere. and you have to like rev the engine up to about 7-8K rpms and drop the clutch to get those below 6, 0-60 times. other than that, if you drive normally, its like driving a civic SI.

The S2k was probably toying with you like what I did with a saturn coupe yesterday. When we start off the line I did 3000rpm shift first gear (going up a steep hill) and I hear this pretty loud a$$ sound right beside me, its a saturn but it isn't pulling fast, just very slowly on me, then I let it go abt 2 cars because I wnat him to think that he is actually winning and then floored it and a couple seconds later he was wayyyy behind me. that guy think he could beat me because a. hes cool, driving a automatic saturn and b. he flicked his cigrette(sp?I dunno I dun smoke hehe) @ me when he did a rice boy fly by after I beat him. Sometimes I like to toy with weak i4 people(not S2k), maybe the S2k was playing with you.

I'm not worried about a stock s2000 from 70mph+ at all! I think I would be pretty even with one till the top of my 4th gear. A stock s2000 would not blow me away on the highway thats for sure! At best might pull a car or two. Maybe pull away more at 125mph+ since I have never opened up 5th gear... Most people like 3rd gear the best. I myself love the 4th gear on my car! If some person is trying to mack with the top down I would assume it would slow the car even more. With 2nd person in one of them it must slow it down big time with the lack of torque? For a car that light with the same HP as my car it should blow us away....too bad they don't!

Third gear kicks a_s_s! You can downshift into 3rd at 75-80mph and floor it and pull away nicely up to about 96mph and then bang into 4th for another long haul of power. 3rd and 4th at reasonably high revs push you back in the seat nicely. Third seems to be my main passing gear because it pulls all the way from 50mph to redline at around 96mph. Just WOT third and you'll have a nice big grin on your face as you fly by people.

Re: I love third!

Ya I like 3rd too! I have a 2k1 5spd and I love 4th on my car since I got the Y-pipe and intake. That is the gear you rock a lot of cars on the highway. ie. like this yuppy in his 323 (really bimmer wannabe) cruising along the other day at around 90. He was ****ed when I pulled up beside him he floored it I floored it and I left him so bad.

Yet another side note to this tread
318's 320 and 323's?? Lame performance for what you pay I'll take a Max anyday! Yes way!

yes i would too

the 318 323 and even the 325, those cars are pretty weak, they have alot of low end thrust but the straight 6 design allos for more low-end. thats why the bimmers have to much torque and have fast 0-60 times. but on the freeway, you can take the 318 323 and 325, the 328 is much more competition, and the 330 will even take you.

Re: yes i would too

I ran a 330 4 door at 65+ through 3rd gear and he didn't pull on me at all side by side the whole way. Then we hit traffic and that was it. Don't like them for the price. If I was to ever get a bimmer it would be any M series or a 540 6spd. I also like the new 745.

Yup a four door. From about 65 to top of third he didn't pull on me at all.

To tell you the truth I think the new Altima 5spd 3.5 might be able to beat one ( 2 door or 4 door auto or manual). On a roll it would be close as well. That is actually kinda funny. Poor bimmer owners...(most are after spending $40+ for a 3 series Bimmer)

I'm sure your faster

A 540 has pulled on me. I've beaten many Prelude. Pulled even with a 330 in third. Never had a chance against a WRX would like to run one on the highway. S2k would probably pull away but not by much. Never had an encounter with a typeR but would not be scared. Hey how bout we run (in your Max) if we are both at the next Max meet in Toronto?? If you have access to any of those other cars I would love to run any of them in stock form on the highway.

A stock 5spd max can and will beat a 328. The new 6spd max will be a good match for the 330.

me?? na it'll be a waste of time, first I'm always busy on meets days you guys setup (I dunno why but it always happens) second 16 second car vs 14 is pointless unless u give me a 1 hour headstart. My friend is in the Toronto scooby club maybe he can get some turboed 2.5RS or modded/stock WRX to run you.

A 328i manual goes from 0-60 in 6.5. I know this isn't that huge of a difference but my money is on a 328i over a Maxima.

Well I dunno never experienced a 328. A 5spd with the Y-pipe and Intake might give us the edge especially in the mid range. I think with my fstb/rsb/springs I could out handle one as well but not sure.
