A couple people have recently switched their stock struts for KYBs, GSXz I think. I know they aren't considered a "performance" strut, but how do these compare to stock. I am going to have to replace my struts soon and I can't afford to pay $500 for Konis and don't want to get stuck with Tokicos if they go soft very quickly. Any comments are more than welcome.

The gr2 is the non adjustable right? Aren't they about 75 or so each? Anyway i don't really care too much for adjustments, i don't race. Do these bolt directly on?

yes. yes. yes.
it's well-documented that gr-2s are not geared toward performance but kyb agx hipo models will be avaialbe in '01.

For 3rd gen Maximas, the KYB GR-2 is firmer than the stock strut on the GXE (probably the SE too). I don't know about the later Maximas. If you keep the original springs, they GR-2s should be fine. From everything I've been able to find on the net, they hold up pretty well. The AGX struts are high performance and adjustable, but not yet available for Maximas. If you're paying someone to do the work you don't want to be changing things too often, because the labor can get expensive.

I have KYB's>>.

I actually had the Tokicos before than switched to the KYB's. Believe it or not the KYB's are comparable to the Tokicos. One of my front Toks blew out and the rest were getting soft too. I replace them with much cheaper KYB's and they held up just fine for over 6 months. If you're not into serious road racing they should be just fine. The fronts were like $70 each and the backs were $50 each.

MightyMax, why didn't you just use the lifetime warranty of the Tokico's and get new ones instead of paying for kyb's?

How would using the KYB GR-2s with the stock springs be? Good choice? Okay choice? Would there be a performance increase? I'm not looking to lower the car. Just some good performance for the dollar.. =)

I just installed the KYB GR-2s on the rears of my 96 Max. They are much firmer than the stockers I had on. They are a great deal for $58 from the Tirerack. I think you guys are gonna find out that many will be switching out their Toks for the GR-2s.

I'm going with adjustable KONIs in the front for track use (ie drag racing). Spring blockers go on the rears.

I stand corrected. SEVEN posted an e-mail on another thread from KYB stating they would have an adjustable product next summer 2001.

Just talked to both sales and R&D at KYB (HQ near my work)

As of right now there are no plans to develop an adjustable AGX strut for the Maxima's

Don't know how Cattman's doing his but he must be modding struts made for another application.

Guess I'm going Koni...

Yes Cattman is modifying KYB AGXs for another vehicle at lease for his CoilOvers but like it says on his web page they are a complete replacement for the stock suspension... I think the cartridges are for an Eclipse but I am not 100% sure...
