I just raced a 2001 Civic EX....

I just raced a 2001 Civic EX. I have a OBX Racing Cone Filter and an OBX Racing Muffler. Even though his car was stick, I beat him. But the sad thing is, I only beat him by about four car lengths. Good thing he was stock. Is this normal? From what I hear in these forums about Civics they're suppose to be real slow. Also, does the EX have VTEC or is the only Civic with VTEC the SI?

I'm pretty sure that the EX has VTEC.

the EX's do have VTEC......but either way, you would have killed him if you were stock auto. and in my opinion, 4 car lengths is a huge kill and no surprise against a stock civic.

Well had it been a Prelude H22 I-4 in a Civic I don't think he would've won. I've seen one at the track run mid to high 13's

I've saw a couple of SCC articles about the swap, but the overall cost spent on the engine could get a Jackson Super charger kit.

Too bad a JRSC'd EX with the stock 6lb pulley only makes 175 hp, an H22A makes 190 or 195 depending on the year of the car it came out of... and they don't have a JRSC kit yet for the 01 Civic.

exactly....plus with the H22 you're still running a basically stock engine..once you mod that thing....jeez...I'm getting worried now...I better watch out for civics

ummm...why don't you do a little research...first of all it's VTEC....NOT Vtech

go take a look at honda's website and then tell me that the EX doesn't have it.

Oops! you're right I did miss spell Vtec.

There, I fixed it.

Anyway, when I went to Yahoo, it did not say anything about Vtec but when I went to edmunds.com, it did say that civic had a vtec engine so I guess you were right.

I'll admit, I WAS WRONG OK

Well, instead of the H22, I would really consider putting a B18 in there, more options.

with all due respect...

this is not a honda/acura hating reply....

there is no way u can mod a stock civic ex engine to go super fast....even if u have a totally modded civic ex engine....only exceptions is nitrous...but even then the engine wouldn't last long at all..an all out modded civic ex vs. a semi modded max...the max will win...all of those 10 sec civic DO NOT have stock engine...they either have the prelude engine, type r engine, but most likely have the gs-r engine....

I read on edmunds that the NEW 2002 Si shares the 2.0 I4 with the base RSX....that thing is gonna move.

If they really wanted it to move they would put the drivetrain from the RSX Type S in it. I had a civic EX that ran 15.2s all motor which is about a second faster than it ran stock. That would beat many of the Maximas on this board. But yeah the D series engines are pretty hopeless in all honesty. The fastest in the world is some Nigerian guy named Erhizi B. or something like that he's got a fully race prepped one in the 10s.

hmmm my friend is running mid 12s and he is still using the 1.6L SOHC Vtec engine that came with the car 9 years ago!

So yeah 2001 EX have Vtec... but in my opinion its a weak engine (in stock form)! no way near a DOHC vtec!
