Clear Tape

I painted the trim that goes around the control switches by the door, I primered, painted, clear coat, twice for each process..(I used Plastikote, special spray for dasboards and stuff that I bought at PepBoys)some of them got scratched up, very easily might I add, so I re-did the whole thing over, now my question: is there any kind of clear plastic tape that I can put over the trim so it will not scratch, any 3M tape that is purposely for dashboards and that sort of thing?

I've never heard of any such tape but it would be neat if they did make it. Why not try some clearcoat over the paint for added protection? Just a suggestion.

Or you could try the 3M clear tape they have for the hood. Maybe you can get a sample size or something and see if that will work.

I put clearcoat over it as a matter of fact not once but twice and it still scatched up, I don't think the clear coat worked and the thing that bugs me out is that the paint that I used is specially made for painting dashboards, you would think that it stick better. The 3M clear tape idea was actually what I was thinking about before, maybe I will give that a shot, but in anycase what is the tape or laminate that goes over those brushed aluminum dash kits?

the 3M clear mask material is hard to work around tight curves. you can try..but it's going to be tough.

You can get 3M clear vinyl. I just used some on my body kit to prevent road bruising. I ordered it from www.lockhartphillips.com

You can also get the vinyl at a shops that make signs/graphics. Ask Shadow he's in the business.

It might have more to do w/ your painting process. Most spraypaint dries pretty soft so it'll scratch off easily. It wasn't really meant for high wear areas like switch bezel etc. You can try clear vinyl but its pretty soft too and would probably peel in a wear area like that. Oil from hands is hell on any finish. You might be able to try some other specialty interior dye but it may be pretty fragile too. Its probably the reason why car manufacturers always mold every color interior they make.
