How long do you let your car warmup?

Hey guys,

Still a newbie here but I was curious so I thought I'd start a poll to see how long you guys let your cars warm up before driving them in cold weather. So let us know!

Read this thread: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ghlight=warmup

I let the car sit no longer than a minute, even if it's freezing outside and my butt is frozen to the seat. Thank goodness for cloth.

Thanks for the thread....that's why I posted the poll to see, number-wise, what most people do. I usually let it sit for a minute or two but i've heard all different kinds of stuff.

you get that PRIME HP when its nice and cold.... but I give it about 30 seconds so that it can get the oil moving when really cold... I don't hammer on the car until it get a little above the C

I let the car warm up until the needle moves off the C and then I drive off and don't go too hard until its fully warmed up.

I just start it and drive off, that's the correct way to warm a car up as far as I know.

Warm-up is only for comfort, i.e. you like to have heat when you get in the car. But it wastes fuel and pollutes the environment, and also achieves 0 mpg. There is one case though, that is tricky. If you leave the car outside and it is wet, sometimes when you go to drive, the entire windshield fogs up with moisture. Turning on the defrost (a/c) does not work, only heat to the glass seems to clear it up. Of course, when it is cold, drive it gently, don't use jack-rabbit starts.

I let my car warm up for 30seconds. In the winter I'll probably leave it on longer, I cannot wait for the needle to get above C because it'll take 5mins @ least in cold canadian winter(not now). Usually by the time I get to school(5-10mins drive), the needle starts climbing.
