i got my clear tails from someone on the forum. and in shipment to me some of the tar like stuff on the back that seals the tails got on the tails. i used a little bit of paint thinner had no effects. but then again i just used a drop or two.
maybe you could use very very high grit sand paper to get some of the layers off? i don't know just a thought.

i believe paint thinner will dissolve plastic, so it would remove not only the red paint but also some of the plastic. this would also give you a clouded finish, because the surface of the plastic is eaten away - no longer smooth & shiny. i wouldn't think it would "warp" the plastic, just dissolve the surface.
i wouldn't try it, or at least try it on some similar scrap plastic to see it's effect first.

Paint thinner and the TB cleaner will both remove and begin to eat away at the plastic causing it to become foggy.
BUT, if you have some good wax and a buffer, you can buff it out good as new.
I did this with my bimmer lights to remove some stuff from the lense but I found some large streaks that wouldn't go away until I tricked the MAACO guy into buffing out my lights after it got painted. As you can see in my sig, it doesn't look too bad at all.
