Broken key stuck in ignition

Ok I just found out my friend's car has his key stuck in the ignition. It's broken in half. Any ideas on how to get it out. It's too late right now to do anything so I have to wait until tomorrow.

Does sticking the other half of the key in the ignition allow the car to start? If it does, you can get it fixed tomorrow.

chewing gum, a potato cut in half, silly puddy, or play doh should work

this happened in my 91 max and my advice is if u can't see the broken piece DON'T STICK ANYTHING IN THERE. i thought i'd be able to start my car if i stuck the other half in there and it just pushed it in farther. call a locksmith, the reason im saying not to push it in any farther is because if i had just left it alone it would have saved me money cuz it caused the locksmith to have to drill in there and dig it out, whereas he could have gotten it out easier with his little tools. i think that was the longest "run-on" sentence i have ever written....

you can try to use 2 small picks to get it out. if it is in too far & you can't get at it, you might have to call a locksmith
