I don't think it is much of an issue. It is however ellegal to change the ride height of any vehicle because it goes against safety rules. I guess if your bumper is 2 inches lower it may have an affect on crash safety. BTW this effects inspection, not emissions, there two different things ..

I have heard of state troopers getting people for lowering, but I don't think just regular cops will get ya. I don't know nothing about emissions.

by lowering a car, you alter the way that it performs in crash tests. If you ever had to take the car throigh inspections, depending on how strict the inspector is, you may fail, and in the same way it is possible to get a ticket for lowering a car. From my experience with my other vehicles, unless the car is literally on the ground you should not have a problem, but it also depends on where you live.

There is also a minimum height for the headlights, I believe. This is why you see some of the exotic sportscars with flipups because they are too low to have integrated lights and meet the min. requirements.

*Most* places won't do a thing about a lowered vehicle so it shouldn't be a problem. Just drop the damn thing :P

sexima, i know you're in virginia like i am. many of my friends have told me that you car techically shouldnt be able to pass va state inspection (it has nothing to do with emissions testing if it has been lowered. for the most part i dont think your local gas station will give a damn but if you ever get rejected for it just find someone you know or someone your friends know at a gas station to inspect your car. this is just hearsay but ive heard it from handfulls of people so it makes me think it's true, at least in virginia. i wouldnt be surprised if VA is the only state that cares about it.

I dont know about Virgina or wherever, but here in California we dont have inspections like they have elsewhere. Anyway, the law here is that from the ground to the middle of your headlight has to be 15 inches or more. So, if you get pulled over and the cop knows what hes doing he might check that out, but I think the only place that would happen is at the races.

The min/max height of headlights, license plates, etc varies from one jurisdiction to another (in the USA, I believe it is on a state by sate basis). You'll probably need to check Virginia's DOT.

out in Mass, they have a test where they roll a tennis ball underneath your car and if it gets stuck on your muffler ot something then you get a ticket for being a road hazard for being too low... my friend had it happen to him with his coilover sprung accord

the u.s. d.o.t. requires u.s. car to be at a certain ride height.
so if your state has a safety & emissions testing. you my fail the safetly part & not the emissions (just like too dark of a tint)
some states are failing cars just because they cannot drive them on to their above ground dyno to test emissions.

Maybe, at this point you should do a little research into your state and local vehicle codes. It appears no one here actually knows the answer.

Please report back promptly. That is all.
