Awww maaaan, imagine if the Max had came in AWD...

I think Nissan really dropped the ball with the Max in '95... the VQ is a phenomenal motor; probably the best V6 ever made. But the flimsy chassis and the rear beam suspension, as well as the wack geometry of the front suspension really take away from the whole experience...

But that motor... wow. Not to mention it responds super well to mods and boost...

An AWD Maxima would have been great. I don't know if there are any compatible AWD manual trannies... but w/an IRS and AWD (even if it was crappy, open diff AWD) it really would have been head and shoulders above the competition.

I hate that AWD is so parasitic and heavy... but I think the Max could have got away with it, esp. with the VQ35. It would have been like a grown up EVO. What do you think?

Imagine a lowered AWD Murano and you have yourself an AWD semi-Maxima

i think you don't know what your talking about.

i can think of a number of engines which take to boost MUCH better then the vq30.

1st of all a 4thgen awd would have been slow. dog slow. add 300+lbs and another 7% of loss at the wheels.

grown up EVO?? i see no comparisons other then they are both imports...different engines suspensions transmissions styling companies market focus etc.

this is an awesome thread. i'm going to go make one called "imagine if the max had come in RWD" and then i'll compare the maxima to a grown up cavalier.

not a bad idea but it would also have to be boosted to make her real sweet.

but nissan does need an awd sedan to keep up with sti and evos
nissan should make a awd with a v-6 in it.

what you guys dont understand is that Nissan would be shooting themselves in the foot by doing this bc it would destory their 350Z/G35 sales..

Id still take one tho

Im not even gona read the rest of your 1st post in this thread because i can tell its crap

DROPPED THE BALL ?

for **** sakes they created the VQ the engine which won Ward's top 10 engines in the WORLD ever since for as long as the 3.0 was running until the 3.5 took over (which still won it every year since then)!!!!

get the hell out of here if you gona say nissan dropped the ball in 95, they friggin gave us the VQ30DE in the 4th GEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AWD in the max in 95 is unrealistic and Nissan gave us the one of thre best cars for that money in 95, look at the mid 90's camry and especially the accord. their cars had no ***** what so ever....who needs dual wishbone suspension if you cant push it enough to feel it ?

An AWD Maxima will be slow regardless.

In my oppionion the best would be a RWD VQ30DET with independant rear suspension.

it would b pretty sick if they were awd...but then it would b complete sports car and i think thats what makes the maxi so unique...its not a sports car and its not a luxury sedan...plus with a budget like mine...trying to get an awd maxima would b preetty hard
