Leather seat stitching

Stupid question, but is it possible to restitch leather seats? I'm not a sewing guru, not even beginner, but just wondering if I wanted to swap the stitching to red, would it be possible?

Anything is possible. The question would be the cost. I have no idea what it would cost. I have had panels replaced in leather seats many times over the years, but never had the whole kaboodle redone. Since the panels would not be replaced, the only expense would be the labor (the red lacing should be fairly cheap). If getting it done, I would find a place with good recommendations, and examine some of their work before making a commitment.

Also, if getting it done, be sure and get everything in writing, including that the rear seats are also to have red lacing, and whether the steering wheel, shift ****, door uphostery, etc, are included.

You would have to remove the entire cover, restitch with red thread and replace it on the seat. Lot of work for not much gain, in my opinion. Just get new ones.

Just love the black leather with red stitching contrast. I got the redline boots and armrest cover, and thought the seats would look badass to match. Even though my seats are in fair condition + one rip, if I got say G35 seats or something, I think the red stitching would look nice.

Am I looking at just rethreading each intersection of leather or is there more involved?

www.katskins.com

That's the best place that also has maxima seat covers. You can choose the color , stitching, and if you want solid colors or two tone on your seats. I was thinking of getting the headrest embroiderd with 'MAXIMA' on em

you mean www.katzkin.com?

haha, I've been to that site, and they have some nice quality leather covers, but I don't feel like paying $600+ for seat covers. I'm going to check out a local upholstery shop and see what they can do.

Just take a permanent maker over the stitches....ok kidding. Do all the 09 models come with red sitching on the black seats? Or just SPort package? I dont see that looking right with Wood Grain.

I wouldn't recommend trying to sew leather yourself. The cloth is hard enough. The padding behind the leather makes it that much more difficult. I've been working for about 2 weeks recovering my back seats (tan, ugh). You really need a monster upholstery sewing machine to punch through all the material.

Here's half of my back seat after a week straight (through my crappy phone's eyes). It's since been sewed back together, and looks great. I didn't know what I was getting into when i tore it apart.

This is a good thread. I am also thinking of having red stitching on my black leather seats. But I guess, Ima just try and sell the old ones and probably just get new ones.
