Good Car Magazines?

Anyone have any modding/tuning/performance car magazines they would recommend?
The car magazine isle is so huge I don't know which magazines have a good rep.
Thanks for your suggestions.

There are 4 that everyone should have subscriptions to. They are really creative, have awesome articles and photos, and have no slutty chicks hiding the beatiful cars behind them.

Road and Track
Motor Trend
Automobile
Car and Driver

They are in the order I would rank them. Look on ebay for ultra cheap subscriptions, good luck!

I've had subscriptions to these magazines for 6 years and have never been disappointed.

sport compact car is good for tuning and modding. the writers and editors really know what they are talking about.

Unfortunately the haven't ever done anything with a max that I've seen, but plenty of other nice cars.

Go to bestdealmagazines.com, they have really good prices. And if you are serious, I can get you 15%+ off if you decide to buy a subscription.

For some people such as myself..having a monthly subscription does'nt work cause every issue does'nt contain enough matierial to iterest me. But you will save more by paying for the full year instead of buying them separately. And with the multitude of choices out there, I'd rather pick and choose monthly depending on the cars and topics discussed.

in this order

Car and driver
Motortrend
Road and track
Automobile

Best mags, cars are stock, no BS, no naked women, honest reviews and info especially from Car and Driver.

If u want to look at tuned cars i dunno what to tell U cause half of them are filled with body kits and super wings, there are a couple of good articles here and there but overall nothing that would really interest(atleast me) most car guys, but if U must try Turbo mag, modified mag has some good stuff(I like them because the try and find all different kinds of cars and the like to give amateurs tuners a shot and do spread in their mag I wouldnt be surprised if i saw a max in there mag), stay away from sport compact, everything is like girls modeling and the thing about it is there wearing like designer cloths so the car isnt the point anymore its the cloths, so its basically at the top of the page tells u the car Honda civic at the middle instead of info on the car u get some girl named brandy..... clothing brand, shoes blah blah blah, I bought one just to see what it was like i looked at it once and never picked it up again

Nissan Sport

Well worth picking up each seasonal copy or just ordering a subscription. I read each issue multiple times.

I like high end cars and new technologies also. I LOVE Topgear from the BBC. Big spoilers and cheesy body kits don't appeal to me.

The three I get are
Sport Compact Car- Great magazine, well written they know their stuff, interesting articles, no BS, overall awesome magazine, I'd definitely recommend that one the most. It has project cars, mail, editorials, articles, new parts reviewed, and tech articles, all around awesome magazine.

Project Car Magazine- Pretty good magazine, it features usually 3 project cars an article that they drop anywhere from 3k to 8k into usually and some articles thrown in there.

Nissan Sport Mag- Nissan specific (duh!), it's a good magazine and well done, I don't like it as much as SCC, also it will feature maximas haha. Poowill's car was in it a few months back.

Hope that helped!

If you have a Nissan, support Nissan Sport Magazine. Great writeups, up to date info and superb products for Nissan owners...

Depends on the car information you're interested in reading, I personally do like reading about every one and every thing automotive in a Enquirer type format (more man reading friendly) so Car and Driver makes the cut. But for Maxima owner's looking to read about Nissan products, cars, previews, highlights, tests, meets, shows, etc. Car and Driver doesn't deliver **** for a Maxima owner!!!

I got turned off by many "tuning" magazines because of the writing style. Akin to a high school thesis paper: pretty good, but not quite polished.

I don't have perfect style, but at least write at a respectable level, unless the target audience is teenage level.

There's wifi just about everywhere here in LA... most magazines have websites, you can read them online, anytime, anywhere. Plus they have videos and discussion forums.

It's been a while since I've read those though. Only when my bro brings some back from work. I should go to the library.

Why do they have to be slutty? That's shallow, and stereotypical. I know many girls and many of those who have been in magazines such as Rides, Dubs, Lowrider, M&M (Makes and Models), etc. and these girls are far from "slutty". Anyways, with that out of the way, my favorite magazine is Motor Trend. Love their reviews and articles. I would also say Makes and Models is a good magazine as well.

Not slutty? They may be great in person, I'm not saying anything about the girls themselves, but they are advertising their bodies and nothing else, and at the same time are blocking the view of the beautiful cars behind them. The cars are way sexier than the girls, so I'd rather look at the cars.

I love hot chicks and hot cars just so long as her pictures or positioning don't overshadow my view of the car, I agree, sometimes when you're trying to get a perspective of a car, they slap a model right in the wrong place...

unless you want something specific to certain markets (tuners/resto/classic/domestic) then i would say 0-60. its a new kid on the block but its very well written and has good articles on just about every kind of car.

"tuning" magazines are lame. They're all about the "bling."

if you want to actually learn something, pick up a mag like GrassrootsMotorsport

first part is right.
second part... I like GRM, but I haven't learned much of anything from them recently... it's all 'beginner stuff' for the most part.
"how to get good dyno numbers"
1. make sure your car is running right
2. check tire pressures
3. make sure dyno is using proper correction numbers
4. check ignition timing
5. use the right fuel

uhhhhh NO SHEIT!

Edit.. btw, I read Grassroots Motorsports, Nissan Sport Mag, Ward's Auto World (an OE-supplier industry mag), and will occasionally pick up a copy of Modified or C&D when I want to laugh at lame stuff.

All these are crap! Keep wishing when you read these things. If you are in the market for a TT BMW or a Lambo, by all means give it a look. If you want to get an education, try Modified mag, Grassroots Motorsports, or Turbo. If you want leans about Hondas, pick up Honda Tuning, or Import tuner. If you want the read about Nads Man ***** read Super Street, other wise not much substance.
One of the best writters in the business is Dave Colman with Sport Compact, however the editer has turned the publication to crap and it is now under 100 pages an edition.
My advice is to hang out in a book store each month till you find a few that tickel your fancy. I have subscribed to all of the ones I have mentioned, and have droped a few and subsequently picked some back up. It just depends on what you are looking for.
