Stupid question

So I took off my spark plug cover about 3 years ago and lost all the bolts. Anyone know what size they are?

You have bigger issues, like getting the correct width tyres on those wheels.

Oh please, please give me some substantial, credited evidence that stretching tires sacrifices safety in a significant way...cite your sources...

Obviously you can over do it and pop a bead, but I have only heard of two instances of someone actually popping a bead in a daily driver, and that was a 205/45 on a 10 inch wide wheel Even if if it does decrease the performance (which I am certain it does), the gains from using a performance summer tire over an O.E. standard all season will outweigh most of the negatives when daily driving....

Spirited/road course driving, thats a different story...

So did you guys with the dramatically stetched tires, did you have any problem getting the installed at shops? Did any of them refuse?

How much worse is your handling?

I have asked many shops that... they have all told me that they much rather stretch a tire then squeeze a wide tire on a tiny rim, its not as hard as it looks...just a lot of lube

My tires are hardly stretched, but I have noticed a decrease in side wall flex through corners. A negative effect is a decrease in straight line traction since the tire is aired up a little more...

Stiffer side walls is the most noticeable outcome, again you CAN over do it, but its a must if you are slammed and still want the rim flush or even poking over the fender. It gives the needed clearence when the suspension compresses...

Of course with solid rear beams, there is no camber compression, so stretched tires won't really help, you will eventually hit something if you are flush with a big bump...

No. But not everyshops tire machine can do it. Bug chains discount belle they can and will. Think i stretched mine to the point that its 2.5 inches shorter than the oem combo.

Stretched tires is a matter of taste when it comes to style. When it comes to safety, there is a huge internet debate as to whether the tires (specifically the beads) will hold up. I have only heard of two cases where the beads popped off. This was on two separate occasions at a drift day. I am not worried at all because I don't do any spirited driving. Bippu guys are running even more serious stretches and I haven't heard of one guy popping beads. Well, here are two threads... the first two Google ones that came up when I searched "stretched tires".

1st: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2234638
2nd: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...d.php?t=541138

BTW, back on the MAIN TOPIC which I originally posted, I did end up finding a screw that fit perfectly for the cover. I am going to home depot tonight to get a whole set. I'll post the size later.

Yeah, I guess it's kind of a stupid question. But the question isn't quite as stupid as the thread title.

I'm not quite sure why you are asking. It's not like you are going to find these unique bolts at a hardware store, are you? Just go to Nissan and order them. You don't need to know the size for that.

P.S. Why do people start sentences with "so"?

How can you find the bolts at the hardware store when you don't know the size? Is it so I can spend $30 worth of bolts and screws to find the magical four? And why go to nissan when I can ask someone on the forums if they know?

I'm suggesting that you won't find them at a hardware store. Aren't these unique, special bolts with the cylindrical hex head?

Ok I get what you are saying. Actually I did find a screw in my garage that had a regular philips head on them that fit. I was more worried about the threading since I didn't want to mess anything up. I'll post up the thread size when I have a chance to go to home depot. I know they have the hex cap screws/bolts at home depot and lowes but they are close to being $1 a piece.

The Home Depot near me has a "screw fitter". So if you have one example of what you need, you can bring it in and try threading it in the different holes. That will tell you diameter, metric/english, thread pitch, etc. Or try good old fanatic rock. That guy rules. He'd probably drop a handful in an envelope and send them off to you for $5.
