I hope they do a sporty coupe like the altima and put a VQ37 motor in it... That would be so awesome and wicked hot... What would be better if they made an AWD version for the winter... I would so buy it... but right now my next car is gonna be a S60R... I matches all my needs... If nissan can do that in the future of the Gen7 I am all for it.

I think they should stop toying with us and give us a real pic/ stats Then go back to the 4DSC it once was. i think we are getting beat out by our rivals which is not cool.then bring an old name plate the 300ZX,i think thats an often overlooked sports car among the Japanes sport car imports

Somebody has missed a few thousand posts here over the past five years.

The Altima 3.5 is Nissan's 4DSC, replacing the Maxima. And it is a fine replacement indeed. Consumer Reports has it as #1 in its $25 to $30K sedan category, better than Accord, Camry, and all other entrantrs tested in that category, based primarily on its excellent driving characteristics. In fact, there have been many posters here for several years suggesting the new Altima was a better 4DSC than the 6th gen Maxima. In some ways, they are correct. That has been Nissan's plan for over five years.

Nissan has mover the Maxima upscale. It now has luxury features not congruent with the image of the Maxima of the 1980s and 1990s. The 6th generation Maxima was a clear departure from the 4DSC of its past, and the 7th generation will be even further upscale. I expect the days of having a base Maxima available under $30K are gone.

But before we write the Maxima off forever, I also feel the 7th gen will never be mistaken for a Buick. It will be very powerful, have solid performance and handling characteristics, and make a driver wish he was on a curvy mountain road so as to experience the full exhilaration this vehicle will offer.

The 7th generation Maxima will not be Nissan's 4DSC, it will be Nissan's upscale flagship near-luxury sports sedan.

and In 4DSC I assume you mean 4 door sports car?... I did not think that nissan was trying to make the cheaper Altima there new 4DSC... The Gen 3 and 4 Alt are nice but I did not think they would do that... heh...

I work at Nissan in their Engineering department and I can tell you all right now that the 7th Gen is going to be equipped with a V8 producing over 300hp, AWD/RWD options, LORAN based navigation system, SE-R option for 2010, customizable intake and suspension systems, G35 rims, BBK stock, and clear sidemarkers as an option in certain jursidictions.

coremanx - Ghosn definitely promised us a clean, quiet turbocharged diesel as an optional power plant for the Maxima, but not before the 2010 model year.

MacGarnicle - Please don't say those things unless they are true. You will have this entire board (especially me) in such a tizzy we won't be able to sleep at night.

The enthusiast can hope for some of those things (definitely not LORAN nav) but it's doubtful. We all know the direction the Maxima is heading.

I guess the obvious isn't obvious enough - I don't work at Nissan and I have no idea what the 7th gen Max holds - nor does anyone else. I seriously doubt customizable intake/suspension and clear sidemarkers are in the works though

man i am not falling for that v8 crap. nissan is not a big fan of dumping v8's into their cars they ratther tweak the vq to make 300 hp. possibly the new max will have the new g's engine with 306 hp or if they come to this board for reserch the vq37 but, i doubt we will get it before they unveil the 370z. but i did read somewhere that nissan is going after the 5 series ( no chance of beating the bimmer but, might you never know). anyway im just soo xcited ab8 this year's NY AUTO SHOW bcus thats where they gon unveil it. you will see as i wiill be there as soon as 9am waiting to get in and i will be sure post pics!!

MacGarnacle later posted above that he does not work at Nissan, and has no idea what the 7th gen may have.

But those joshing with us are on a short string; in just TWELVE MORE DAYS, their 'window of teasing' closes, because we will all see the 2009 Maxima via Nissan's official release, plus we will get photos posted here from Maxima.org folks attending the New York Auto Show.

This pic is close but it's more aggressive. I don't work on the Altima/Maxima line so I don't want to state anything as fact because I'm not "in the loop"

That pic (above) is of a Intima or something it's just a concept with Rolls-Royce like luxury. But, I wouldn't mind something like that if if Nissan wasn't making the Max a 4dsc anymore. But i'd rather see an awesome 4dsc for the 7th gen.

The ugly sky blue concept is the Intima (most name ever) and that picture has been around the internet for months. It's definitely not the 7th gen Maxima. Note the rear suicide doors. Stupid as hell, just trying to draw attention to itself for the wrong reasons.
