R.i.p.
R.i.p.
I would like to make this a general post on the dangers of drag racing as well as a tribute to those I lost tonight, October 28 2001.
I had a friend who had a yellow Integra Type R, another friend who had a silver Celica GT-S. They decided to push their cars to the limit, and realized that they themselves could not handle 120 MPH. After a heavy collision with a construction truck, the ITR was in shambles, as was my friend and his sister. The Celica was in a pond almost 10 feet away, my friend and his girlfriend no longer alive. May they rest in peace, and a warning to all drag racers out there. Please, be careful.

....
I'm sorry to hear about your loss. My thoughts go out to their family and friends..
I hope this serves as a lesson to some of the people here. Taking your car to a crazy speed for a few seconds is not worth risking your life and the life of other innocent people who share the roads with you. Keep it at the track.

I can relate to the loss of life in such a senseless way, in more ways than one. My close friend, who was also my cousin, died a few months ago in a motorcycle accident. I give my sincerest condolences to the victims' friends and family. Please, everyone drive safe. It is not worth your life.
God Bless
God Bless
Makes you think twice before you start doing crazy things that we are all sometimes inclined to do. What's bad is that most people don't learn their lessons from hearing about such things, they have to experience it in order to comprehend the sheer power that is embodied in an automobile. Not only can you kill yourself, but you can also hurt many other people sharing the road if you're not careful enough.
To all the young drivers out there, please drive carefully and think before you race! Your life is MUCH more important than your PRIDE.
I've learned my lesson in my own near death experience, luckily, no one was hurt and no cars were damaged, but I was DAMN lucky to have made it out of it with no scratches.

my best to your friends and their families.
i always thought i could handle 120...no problem. what could go wrong? i guess its people like me (and many of you) who end up getting hurt because we know its not safe but hell...'i can do it'. everyone, just think twice or even three times before you really decide to push your car to the limit. even if you think you can handle it something unexpected might happen that you cant control. like someone said earlier, save it for the track.

Being on a road with other people that are doing the speed limit and doing 120 is a problem. 120 on any unknown street can be a problem. Just imagine a dip that makes your car bounce a bit at say 60.. double that speed and you could easily be airborn. Regular streets are NOT made for 120..there's enough imperfections in the road alone to cause you problems.. add to that inexperienced drivers, slower traffic and the typical soccer moms in minivans with 100 other things on their minds besides driving (no to mention the people on cell phones, etc.) and racing/speeding on a typical highway can easily result in loss of life.
I can't say too much.. I think I was up to 125-130 on the caravan back from Woodbury.. stuff like this makes you step back and think about it and reconsider doing it the next time.
My prayers go out to friends and families of the ones involved in this terrible accindent. As for the rest be carful when racing, I know it's sometimes hard to resist the temptetion, but safty should be number one!
I have to tell ya, I see more and more of this all the time (I guess the older you get, the more you see). I feel for these people, but can't help but wonder if these people simply did not know the limits of their car?
I believe that if people could get on an autocross track (or some type of safe, controlled environment), they could have a better understanding of a cars reaction to braking/cornering/etc at higher speeds. I do not race in enviroments that aren't controlled for the simple reason that you AREN'T in control.
If you haven't had to stop or corner your car at 100+, or brake (under control), then you cannot know what the recourse will be when you hit the brakes, or stop abruptly.
I was coming back from the Drag Wars about 2 weeks ago, in heavy Houston traffic, and I had two white Hondas pass me from both sides, running into the median to pass, up all over the road. And for what? to see what car is the fastest out of those two? these guys had just come from 10 hours of drag-racing...what else could they possibly want to know?
I can't help them, just hope they don't realize they can't corner at 100+ in front of me. I don't want to see it.

....
I saw this story on the News and it was in the local newspapers. Parents should not buy kids FAST cars like Type R Integras... The students of that high school were saying how street racing is so popular amongst the kids with cars... That sucks, I am kind of glad I live in NYC where there is simply too much traffic to race. When I just started driving, i'll admit I was going a little crazy, and it's a good thing I was knocked back into my senses.
I don't drive fast anymore that much. I was going 110 and there was traffic and I didn't realize it so I had to suddenly brake. It was very scary. You car just does not brake the same. I was able to make it, but I am not going that fast again. I say this, but I will. Stupid kids <---.
