Another Victim fallen to Don's VB Mod

Follow them step by step. Do not be afraid to get messy and wear your old clothes cuz ATF doesnt come out to my knowledge. You just drop the tranny pan, clean it drop the VB with 13 bolts, put the new one in - keep an eye on the retaining clip and the spring, put the 13 bolts back in and put the pan back on. After that just add the ATF.

But I do love the positive engagement of gears. If we were able to get back the 20-30hp we lose to our 5spd brothers with the same mods we would be whopping them at ever light

you didnt "chirp" in 2nd there... like they are talking about.. you on the other hand floored it and the car shifted to first and your soft tires could not grab, therefore you hear the chirp.. they are referring to a full stop and then floor it.. when it shifts to second the tires chirp.. my mom's 330 5spd can chirp second and third... its fun.

Man, that sounded really simple.

Chirping comes after a shift. You floor it, in an automagic, and after the 1-2 shift as it gets into 2nd gear the tires chirp. That is a true chirp. Otherwise its just cold tire/cold road/bald tires/slick road kind of situation.

There's no margin for error so you need to take your time to follow's don's directions every step of the way. I was lucky enough to have Jeff and Jim who had prior experience in swapping out vbs to lend their time and expertise.
One of the best investment made on the max, right up there next to the intake and y-pipe

Few points about the VB:
1. In my experience the VB will decrease your 1/4 time by .2 seconds at the most if you are NA.. most likely it will give you no better times...
2. NOT everyone chirps 2nd with an auto. I for one have NEVER chirped 2nd.
3. The best mod for an auto is not a VB .. it's a 5-spd swap ..
i am done

Wicked - Ask around. The guy on here that did the swap spend about $1500, but he did all the labor himslef with the help of another .org member. Add shop labor and you are easly at $2000-2500.

The VB Mod actually slowes you down ?(decreased 1/4th) What the hell ? Why would anyone spend $450 to make their cars slower just so they can chirp.
And about lengthening the tranny life, my sis has 170,000 miles on her stock automagic '95, and its still goin' strong. She's hard on it too.
BTW, I can get the 5spd conversion done for about $400, that's why I'm doin' it.

that is not the best course of action my friend, these auto owners are obviously desperate for the joys of a 5spd, if you do not yield, you will find your car stripped and burned in the morning.

Ok, I'll feed you guys a little more. I know $400 seems waaay too good to be true. What I mean is after I sell off my auto tranny after the entire 5spd swap, I will only be out about $400 with a fresh 5spd. How I do this is magic.

I have heard stories of medics automagic chirping 2nd gear? So i'd say it's pretty
anyways, if I was to get the VB it would be for reliability reasons, supposedly it's a MUST HAVE mod for Boosted automagic Maximas or you can kiss your tranny good bye.

there is no doubt that i want to have a 5speed.. but there is no guarrantee that i can sell the auto tranny and parts.. plus i just got airbag suspension, 18s, and my stereo redone, so without a definite buyer i cant afford 1400 for a few months.
